Paul looked fantastic in a deep green suit at the New York City premiere of the film earlier on Wednesday night.
The star recently revealed the unexpected advice director Ridley gave him before filming his first Gladiator II scenes.
He plays Lucius in the epic and said that he didn’t fear taking the torch from Russell Crowe, who won an Oscar for his role in the 2000 original.
But the actor did say he was left asking himself ‘what the f*** does that mean’ following the 86-year-old filmmaker’s cryptic tip.
Speaking with the Hollywood Authentic, Mescal recalled, ‘He comes up, smoking a cigar, and he slaps me on the back, and goes: ‘Just remember, your nerves are no good to me.’
‘I was like ‘What the f**k does that mean?’ What I took from it was: ‘This isn’t about you. So whatever legacy the film is taking, you’re actually doing it a disservice if you can’t wear that. It’s bigger than us all making the film. Just go make the film.”
Paul also shared what nickname castmate Pedro Pascal gave him after he underwent intense training to get in shape for the role — ‘Paul the wall.’
Amid promotion for the film, Ridley dished on his plans for a third installment.
