BBC Breakfast underwent another hosting shake-up as a fan favourite was notably absent from the show.

During Wednesday’s episode of the BBC programme, show regular Sally Nugent, 53, was nowhere to be seen. 

Instead, Jon Kay, 55, was joined by Nina Warhurst, 44, who stepped in to deliver the latest headlines but suffered an awkward blunder.

Nina the spoke over him as she said: ‘Yes the Hoppiness project got them growing hops in the garden of their care homes to turn into their own pale ale!’

The presenter giggled at her mistake before moving on with the segment which saw the residents explain how they made their beer. 

Last week,  Jon and Sally were caught off guard after a major technical mishap. 

During Tuesday’s instalment of the daytime programme, the breakfast show aired a segment on Keir Starmer, 62, however, when the camera returned to the studio, the pair were unaware they were being filmed. 

While Jon leaned back on the sofa appearing engrossed by his phone, Sally accidentally showed her list of notes to the camera as she returned to the sofa with a cup of tea. 

While the presenters usually apologise for technical errors, the pair continued presenting the show as normal when the cameras returned to the studio. 

However, the mishap wasn’t missed by viewers at home, as one person shared a screensH๏τ of the error on X, writing: ‘Ooopsie!!!’

The show also hailed the return of Jon, who was absent from the BBC Breakfast sofa for a while as he covered the US Election. 

Sharing snaps from his time in the US, he wrote: ‘Broadcasting high above the White House with the world’s media, as the USA heads to the polls.’

While in another post he reflected: ‘The sun sets on US Election Day 2024 in Washington DC. Whoever wins, history will be made.’ 

Elsewhere on the show, the hosts examined several news stories including the upcoming bill on ᴀssisted dying in Parliament, calls for Justin Welby to resign as the Archbishop of Canterbury, and Paddy McGuinness’ Ultra Endurance Cycle Challenge for Children in Need.
