Great British Bake Off fans in fury as they say favourite who ‘didn’t put a foot wrong’ has been ‘robbed’ of a place in the final

Great British Bake Off fans were furious after Gill was sent home on Tuesday night.

Viewers argued the 53-year-old senior category manager from Lancashire ‘hadn’t put a foot wrong’ in the semi-final and was ‘robbed’ of a place in next week’s grande finale.

Judges Prue Leith, 84, and Paul Hollywood, 58, sent through Christiaan de Vries,  Dylan Bachelet and Georgie Grᴀsso through to the final round, will Gill leaving with a lilac bowl as a parting gift.

Viewers were stunned by the eviction, after Dylan was torn apart by Prue and Paul over his signature challenge, with him admitting it was was ‘one of the worst things I’ve made on the show’.

Meanwhile, Georgie threatened to quit after her Jaconde sponge in the technical took a turn for the worst – and it was only a pep talk from Alison Hammond that saw her continue with the task.

They wrote on X: ‘Gill’s been absolutely robbed, hope she stole more than the bowl tbh’ and ‘Gill should have gone through, she was brilliant’,

‘Even Georgie knew she should have been sent home’

‘You have got to be kidding me’ and ‘wrong person went home’.

The show kick-started with the remaining four facing the ‘most ambitious’ signature challenge ever set in the Bake Off tent.

Bakers had three hours to create 16 laminated breakfast pastries and for the first time ever were allowed to prove their dough overnight.

But Dylan didn’t get off to a good start after he misread the instructions and thought they only had two hours, meaning his design was ruled as ‘quite simple’ by judge Prue.

Paul, meanwhile, instructed him to leave one croissant without the filling to ensure the pastries were laminated properly and the hazlenut cream wasn’t camouflaging an issue.

Dylan said: ‘I think it’s one of the worst things I’ve made on the show’.

For the technical challenge, Paul told the bakers they must make an opera cake with a Joconde sponge and chocolate ganache.

He told Prue: ‘It’s all about the detail. It’s showing off this cake. It’s tricky but it’s the semi-final.’

Georgie broke down in tears after reading the instructions wrong for the sponge and almost threatened to quit. She said: ‘I’m just going to stand here until it’s finished’.

After a pep talk from Alison she tried again, but placed last while Dylan had an amazing comeback and earned the top spot in the challenge.

Christiaan bagged star baker with the judges voting out Gill because she hadn’t pushed herself far enough.

The Great British Bake Off final airs next Tuesday on Channel 4 at 8pm.
