In an astonishing discovery, Shlomi Katzin, a recreational diver from Atlit, Israel, unearthed a remarkable artifact during a routine dive in the Mediterranean.
While exploring the waters near the Carmel coast, Katzin noticed a glint beneath the sand. Upon closer examination, he uncovered a magnificent sword measuring over 39 inches long, believed to date back to the Crusades.
The area surrounding this incredible find also revealed additional historical items, including ancient stone and metal anchors as well as pottery shards, collectively offering insights into a long-lost period of history.
Realizing the significant historical value of his discovery, Katzin carefully retrieved the sword and promptly informed the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA).
Nir Distelfeld, an inspector with the IAA, confirmed the sword’s authenticity, commenting, “This beautifully preserved sword is a rare find and clearly belonged to a Crusader knight.” Despite being covered in marine life, the exquisite craftsmanship of the iron blade was still evident.
