In Cher: The Memoir, Part One, set for release November 19, Believe icon Cher, 78, writes in a note at the beginning: ‘I refer to my son Chaz as Chas, the name he went by during the years covered in this book
‘Chaz has granted his blessing for this usage. In the next volume, at the appropriate point, I will refer to my son as Chaz’ – the note concludes, per The New York Times.
Chaz – born Chasтιтy Sun Bono – is Cher’s only child with Sonny, who she was married to from 1964 to 1975.
As a child, before he transitioned, Chaz appeared on his very famous parents’ variety show The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour.

Chaz is a successful writer and actor, he was also the first transgender star to appear on Dancing With The Stars in 2011.
In 2020 Cher said it wasn’t easy’ when Chaz transitioned from female to male in 2009.
The iconic singer remembered the extremely difficult moment when she called his answering machine and heard his old voice, during an interview with CNN,
She also looked back on the light-bulb moment when she realised she hadn’t ‘lost’ her only child – previously known as Chasтιтy – but that he had simply changed ‘shape’.
Cher said of her initial struggle to accept Chaz’s transition: ‘It was very unlike me to, in the beginning, have a problem with Chaz being gay, and it disappeared like that.
‘Then we talked about [whether Chaz was] transgender for many years and [he] would say, “No, I don’t want to [transition]”. And then he went and said, “OK, I want to do this.”
‘But it wasn’t easy. I remember calling, and the old [voicemail] message was on the phone, and that was very difficult.’

She added that she didn’t ‘lose her child’ and that he now exists in ‘a different shape’.
In 2011, Chaz opened up about his transition in a candid discussion with Oprah.
‘Life was always so much more difficult,’ he said of his existence before surgery.
‘Especially going into puberty, it felt like the expectations around me started to change or how I was supposed to act, but it also felt as if my body was literally betraying me.
‘I went from a very athletic, straight up and down little kid to a very curvaceous woman. It was just horrifying to me.’
The political activist confessed that his famous mother struggled to deal with the transition at first, but he always knew he was loved, regardless of his gender.
He continued: ‘The hard thing for my mom is that because she is a public figure and because she has this personality of being so cool about stuff and progressive, people forget that she’s a parent.
‘The truth is a lot of parents never speak to their transgender kids again. That’s not the case in my family. There’s no doubt about her love for me.
‘Now, everything is so easy and effortless,’ he added. ‘I feel like I’m on the same playing field as everybody else.’

Chaz is engaged to longtime partner Shara Blue Mathes. The pair recently moved to a $2.5 million house just a few miles away as they prepare to live as a married couple after their upcoming wedding.
Chaz and Shara got together in January 2017, a decade after he began his transition from female to male, and got engaged in recent years.
Chaz will wed former child star Shara, who appeared alongside Jason Bateman in the 1984 comedy series It’s Your Move when she was 15, in the near future.
Cher has now abandoned her bid to get conservatorship over her other son Elijah Blue Allman, 48.
The nearly year-long legal battle came to an end on September 13 after the singer filed a notice to withdraw at Los Angeles Superior Court.
However, his mother will reportedly not be there as she was uninvited from the wedding as part of the fallout from the messy court battle.
‘Chaz and Shara are removing Cher from the guest list entirely and don’t feel too bad about it either,’ an insider told In Touch in February.
‘They want a simple ceremony with none of Cher’s theatrics.’
