The Dallas Cowboys, who have already lost starting quarterback Dak Prescott for the rest of the season, could be in further trouble at that position as a backup has landed on the injury report.
Cooper Rush, who is slated to make his second start for Dallas this season, was listed on the weekly injury report with a neck injury.
Despite this designation, he was a full participant in practice on Thursday and it’s unclear if he’s expected to miss any game time.
If Rush is sidelined due to this injury, the team will have to turn to third-string quarterback and former third-overall pick Trey Lance to lead the Cowboys.
Lance has only played in one game so far this season, registering four completions on six pᴀss attempts for 21 yards and one interception in last week’s loss to Philadelphia.
Lance was picked third overall in the 2021 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, who looked to the North Dakota State prospect as their potential quarterback of the future.

That leaves the Cowboys with the possibility of turning to third-string quarterback Trey Lance
He was given the reins to the franchise at the start of the 2022 season, only for Lance to suffer a season-ending injury in Week 2.
After an injury that season to backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, the Niners then pᴀssed the torch to third-stringer and ‘Mister Irrelevant’ Brock Purdy, who led San Francisco to the NFC Championship game.
Once the 49ers decided that they would be going with Purdy as their starter going forward, they traded Lance to the Cowboys in the 2023 preseason in exchange for a fourth-round pick.
Lance spent all of 2023 as a healthy scratch and the Cowboys declined his fifth-year option back in May of this year.
The only reason the Cowboys are in this situation to begin with is due to an injury to starting quarterback and $240million man, Dak Prescott.
Prescott injured his hamstring in a loss to the Atlanta Falcons back in Week 9, which was revealed to be a partial avulsion of his right hamstring.
Just two days ago, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed that Prescott underwent a procedure to repair his hamstring that would sideline him for the rest of the season.
Currently, the only quarterbacks available to the Cowboys are Rush, Lance, and practice squad quarterback Will Grier – a fifth-year veteran who has spent most of his career as a backup.

The Cowboys are set to play the in-state rival Houston Texans on Monday Night Football this week.
Unfortunately for Dallas, it’s unlikely to be a game that could turn their season around as they sit at 3-6 and have lost four straight.
The nadir of their season may have been last week’s 34-6 loss at home to their division rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles.
In that game, the Cowboys only put up 146 yards of total offense and Rush completed 13-of-23 pᴀsses for a paltry 45 yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions. Lance stepped in, going 4-of-6 for 21 yards and a pick.
