Lorraine fans accuse show of being ‘detached from reality’ over ‘INSANE’ price of advent calendars as Strictly’s Amy Dowden presents shopping segment in the wake of foot injury

Lorraine viewers accused the show of being ‘detached from reality’ as they showcased extortionately priced advent calendars on Friday’s show.

Fresh from her heartbreaking exit from Strictly’s amid her foot injury, Amy Dowden, 34, was on hand to give the low down on the latest Yuletide treats on offer in the run-up to Christmas.

And though stand-in host Christine Lampard, 45, was impressed with the items on offer, the same couldn’t be said for the viewers watching at home.

The segment was intended to show advent calendars to suit ‘every budget’, however, Amy kicked off with a particularly expensive item, showcasing a luxury calendar from the White Company costing an eye-watering £195.

She went on to show off a £114 deluxe calendar from Rituals, with another gift from beauty brand No7 coming in at a huge £131.25.

Though Amy provided some balance with a Revolution calendar costing £30 and a Nivea Men’s one at £25, viewers couldn’t get over the ‘insane’ cost of the pricier items on offer, suggesting the show was out of touch particularly amid the cost of living crisis.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, viewers were quick to call out the programme for promoting the high-priced calendars, noting that the costs were ‘madness’.

They penned: ‘F**king ITV flogging advent calendars for over 100 quid when pensioners are freezing, this mob have they ever been more detached from reality.’

‘These Advent calendars are insane. Hundreds of pounds for products that no one needs and many of which will be wasted in packaging that will probably be thrown straight in the bin after Christmas.’

‘What happened to the couple of £ chocolate advent calendar’s? Who pays over £100 for one’

‘Back in my day an advent calendar was a cheap thing with a Christmas themed picture behind, now here are some at £200, madness. So much for a cost of living crisis.’

Meanwhile on the show, Amy sat down with Christine, where she told how she was ‘gutted’ to be missing the Strictly Come Dancing Blackpool Special on Saturday, with her former dance partner JB Gill now dancing with Lauren Oakley.

The Welsh dancer said to Christine: ‘It’s the goal, everybody wants to make it to Blackpool and there’s something so special about being there. I remember walking in when I was eight years old and just being like, wow. That’s when I turned to my mum and said, “Mam, I want to be a professional dancer”.

‘I was lucky enough to be crowned British champion there in 2016 and then I danced with Karim (Zeroual, her 2019 partner) there, we got nearly a perfect score – 39 out of 40.

‘I’m just so gutted I won’t be dancing there this weekend.’

Amy added: ‘It’s definitely not the way I wanted it, but I’m so proud of JB, Lauren’s doing a great job and obviously I planned the series to have his best numbers towards the end to get him to the final because he’s so talented. I’ve seen the Quickstep and everybody’s in for a treat and there’s more tens coming.’

It comes after Amy revealed in an emotional statement that she’s determined to ‘keep pushing’ on as she continues to recover from a foot injury, which forced her to pull out of the show.

After undergoing treatment for stage 3 breast cancer last year, Amy was unable to participate in the show as she recovered from chemotherapy.

And this year, the professional dancer made a triumphant return to the BBC ballroom with JLS singer JB Gill, 37.  However, it was sadly announced last week that the dancer would be withdrawing from the compeтιтion due to the injury.

Revealing that she’s now focused on her recovery, Amy said in her statement: ‘One year on and I’m determined to keep pushing this next year!’

‘Thank you to everyone who messaged this past week, it truly means everything! I’d be lying if I said I’m ok, but I know I will be and I’m lucky to have so many loved ones around me! 2025 sounds like an even better year ay.’
