ITV confirms Big Brother WILL return next year along with Celebrity Big Brother for epic 25th anniversary – and applications are officially open

ITV has confirmed that Big Brother will return to screens next year, along with the Celebrity version, marking 25 years of the show in the UK – and applications are already open.

It comes as the channel’s second instalment of the original reality format is set to conclude on Friday night after another successful series.

During the Live Final, viewers will crown the winner of the current series, who will walk away victorious with a life-changing cash prize.

The third series of Big Brother on ITV2 and ITVX will follow another iconic star-studded edition of Celebrity Big Brother which is set to air in spring 2025, as a new batch of famous faces take up residence in the UK’s most famous abode.

Applications for next year’s civilian series are now open, so hopefuls who believe they have what it takes to take on the original social experiment can now apply by visiting BigBrother.com.

Paul Mortimer, Director of Reality Commissioning and Acquisitions said, ‘Big Brother programming has firmly established itself across ITV’s platforms and become a favourite with our viewers.

‘Together, Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother have grown audiences on ITV1 and ITV2 and amᴀssed almost 100 million streams on ITVX.

‘We’re therefore very excited to be able to throw open the House doors once again for another series of both Big Brother and Celebrity Big Brother in 2025 which are sure to promise more unmissable entertaining and captivating moments.’

Katy Manley, Managing Director of Initial, added: ‘We are so excited to be coming back with more Celebrity Big Brother and Big Brother.

‘Both series have really resonated with audiences, and we can’t wait to make more. As always, viewers can look forward to Big Brother keeping Housemates – celebrities and civilians alike – on their toes.’

Earlier this year, Celebrity Big Brother’s launch episode attracted the biggest audience in over a decade with 3.8m viewers tuning in, seven-day consolidated figures show.

Hosted by AJ Odudu and Will Best, the reality show sees a cast of famous faces enter the iconic Big Brother house, where they embark on the ultimate social experiment by becoming isolated from the outside world.

Leaving luxury behind, the celebrities will take part in nominations and tough tasks with cameras capturing their every move.

‘They were already looking forward to series two of the civilian series in the autumn and have now added a second series of the CBB to the pot.’

‘The number of viewers watching live has sat solidly above 1million all series which is meaty for a daily show at 9pm…’

It comes after Big Brother ratings slumped to their lowest ever viewership on launch night earlier this month.

For the highly anticipated return of the UK’s first social experiment, only 825,000 people tuned into ITV to watch the live premiere.

The ratings represented less than half of last year’s simulcast launch.

But it was not all bad news, as 25 percent of those viewers were aged 16-34, in line with ITV2’s airing last year.

While it may be the lowest-ever opener in terms of numbers, it is on par with last year’s overnight series average.

It’s a far cry from the 2.5 million viewers the first episode attracted last year, but that was also simulcast across ITV1.

The 2024 opener was exclusive to ITV2 and ITVX and was not broadcast across ITV1.

People watching on ITVX or on catch-up were not included in the viewership numbers, only those who watched live were considered for the count.
