Lizzo announces surprising move after Trump’s election win as she aims to leave all ‘toxicity’ behind

Lizzo is among a number of Hollywood stars, like Jamie Lee Curtis and Don Lemon, leaving X (formerly Twitter) following President-elect Donald Trump’s election win.

On Thursday, the Truth Hurts singer, 36, announced that she was fleeing the social media platform that has become increasingly toxic platform since Elon Musk’s $44 billion takeover of the company.

The four-time Grammy winner revealed on Instagram that she created an account on Bluesky, another site similar to Twitter/X, which allows users to share posts and pH๏τos with their followers.

‘I hate the internet. Anyways I joined bluesky cus we’re leaving toxicity in 2024,’ she captioned a bathroom mirror selfie that showed her rocking a fluffy white robe.

Later in the day, the rapper (born Melissa Viviane Jefferson) took to her Instagram Story to call the move as ‘the great migration.’

Since joining Bluesky, she has received 2,400 followers. On Twitter, which she joined back in 2011, Lizzo has more than 2.1 million followers.

The star has been very active during her first 12 hours on Bluesky, where she has already shared 38 posts.

In one post, she asked: ‘Wait… are we having fun on the internet again?’

Just seven minutes later, however, she admitted that she was ‘clearly’ had ‘some wounds to heal because’ she was ‘scared to check the replies on’ that last post.

‘Awww don’t let it get to you mama. There are plenty of us who love and support you!’ one fan replied.

Others called Bluesky a ‘safe space’ compared to Twitter.

‘Wishing every refugee on this app healing❤️‍,’ another Bluesky user replied.

On November 7, two days after Trump secured his second term in the White House,  Lizzo shared a message of love to her fans on her Instagram.

In her post, she can be seen writing ‘Sending LOVE to everyone in the WORLD’ on a sheet of white printer paper.

Lizzo had rallied behind Vice President Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, throughout the 2024 presidential race.

After Harris received criticism for not doing enough during her vice presidency, Lizzo blasted the politican’s opposers in a pᴀssionate Instagram video.

‘For everyone saying that Kamala Harris didn’t do anything when she was VP, please, for $5,000, do not use Google, tell me what any vice president has ever done during their term that was notable that you noticed,’ she asked.

Lizzo continued: ‘Can we all just be for real? Let’s all be for real and say our quiet parts out loud, because the discourse is tired.’

Last month, Lizzo even spoke at a rally for Harris in her hometown of Detroit.

The pop star, however, was torn apart online for stating that ‘the whole country will be like Detroit’ if Harris wins the election.

Lizzo raved that being like Detroit meant being ‘proud like Detroit’ and ‘resilient like like Detroit.’

The Good as Hell hitmaker’s remarks rubbed a lot of Americans the wrong way as Detroit’s unemployment rate is twice the national average and is ranked second least safe city in the U.S.

Her statement went vital on X and immediately drew backlash.

‘That was a Trump endorsement if I’ve ever had one. Lol,’ one X user tweeted.

Another wrote: ‘Regardless of Lizzo’s strenuous efforts to spin it, all that will be ringing in people’s subconscious is: ‘Kamala will turn America into impoverished, run down, and unsafe, Detroit.’

‘If Kamala is elected the whole country will look like Detroit. A decimated car industry. A top ten city in crime statistics,’ a third posted.

Even many social media users claiming to live in Detroit said they do ‘NOT want the whole country to be like Detroit.’

Despite facing trolling, Lizzo continued to urge Americans to vote and reminded that numerous times.

‘If your vote didn’t matter, then voter suppression would not exist. If your vote didn’t matter, they wouldn’t discourage young people from going to the polls,’ she pointed out. ‘If your vote didn’t matter, our parents and our grandparents would not have marched — and fought — for our right to vote.’
