Louise Thompson goes into septic shock after being rushed back to hospital for emergency operation as her fiancé Ryan Libbey admits ‘I don’t know how much more she can take

Louise Thompson has suffered another setback in her health after being rushed in for emergency surgery before going into septic shock.

The Made In Chelsea star has been in hospital for two weeks, with her fiancé, Ryan Libbey explaining how he rushed her to A&E when she suffered agonising abdomonal pain.

Speaking on the couple’s podcast He Said, She Said in a new episode recorded a week ago and released on Wednesday, an emotional Ryan explained why Louise was absent and heartbreakingly admitted ‘I don’t know how much more she can take.’

Ryan said he had returned from a weekend visiting his family in Devon to find Louise in ‘rolling around in heaps of pain.’

By the early hours of the morning she could take no more and Ryan rushed her to A&E ‘and a few hours later she was on the operating table.’

Louise underwent surgery ‘in the same tummy area that she’s been recovering from since earlier this year with her stoma surgery. It was completely unexpected,’ Ryan told listeners.

Complications arose and she went into septic shock after the operation which Ryan explained ‘shows the severity of how bad things got.’

Ryan reᴀssured listeners that his fiancée is recovering, and is out of the intensive care unit, but he confessed the terrifying ordeal has taken its toll on both of them.

‘I don’t know how much more she can take,’ he said. ‘It’s soul destroying, it takes the wind right out of your sails.’

‘It leaves you completely dumbfounded because you don’t know why someone would deserve to go through countless bouts of bad health like this.’

‘I can’t believe we’re back in this situation. My heart beat is skipping around all over the place which is an indication of how heavy and raw it all feels. It’s very unexpected and a difficult pill to swallow. It’s completely broken me.’

Ryan said during the recording last week that he hoped Louise will be home in time for their son Leo’s third birthday on November 14.

‘She’s got the mum guilt, she’s worried about letting him down,’ Ryan explained, revealing that whilst Louise is through the worst of her physical battle, ‘now she’s in this difficult mental space.’

He added that for him carrying on with work has been difficult, telling fans that ‘when I walked into the room to record this episode, seeing just one chair and one microphone moved me to tears.’

‘I had to leave the house for a few minutes to gather my emotions, so I ran down to the florist to get a bunch of flowers for the set of the podcast. I wanted to make every effort to get this right and to keep things consistent, I wanted to do the podcast justice and make Louise proud’.

Louise, the elder sister of Sam Thompson, has faced series of health issues since the birth of Leo in November 2021.

She recently published her book Lucky which details her health battles over the past three years.

She shared the news of having a stoma bag fitted with her Instagram followers in early April, as she bravely admitted it is ‘not something she wanted to hide forever’.

The television personality has previously spoken about her ongoing struggles with the bowel condition ulcerative colitis as well as the autoimmune disease lupus.

Ulcerative colitis is a chronic bowel condition where the colon and rectum become inflamed and small ulcers develop on the colon’s lining, which can bleed. The condition has no cure, but can be effectively managed with time.

Earlier this year she spent two weeks in hospital after suffering a ulcerative colitis flare up during a holiday with Ryan and Leo.

 WHAT IS ULCERATIVE COLITIS?

Ulcerative colitis is a long-term condition, where the colon (the bowel) and rectum become inflamed. It affects around one in every 420 people living in the UK.

Small ulcers can develop on the colon’s lining, and can bleed and produce pus.

Symptoms include recurring diarrhoea, which may contain blood, mucus or pus, abdominal pain and needing to empty your bowels frequently.

People may also experience fatigue, loss of appeтιтe and weight loss.

WHAT CAUSES ULCERATIVE COLITIS?

Ulcerative colitis is thought to be an autoimmune condition which means the immune system – the body’s defence against infection – goes wrong and attacks healthy tissue.

The most popular theory is that the immune system mistakes harmless bacteria inside the colon for a threat and attacks the tissues of the colon, causing it to become inflamed.

Exactly what causes the immune system to behave in this way is unclear. Most experts think it’s a combination of genetic and environmental factors.
