Queen Camilla to Skip Gladiator II Premiere Amid Illness: Report

Queen Camilla has pulled out of the upcoming Gladiator II London premiere amid an ongoing illness, according to a new report.

Camilla, 77, was set to attend the red carpet event alongside husband King Charles III on Wednesday, November 13. However, HELLO! has since reported that Camilla will sit this one out as she continues to recover from a chest infection. (Us Weekly has reached out to Buckingham Palace for comment.)

Charles, 75, will meet with the movie’s director, Sir Ridley Scott, solo at the event hosted in Leicester Square on Wednesday. The monarch will also cross paths with some of the film’s stars, including Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen and Pedro Pascal.

While Camilla will apparently miss out on the Gladiator II premiere, she is still slated to attend a reception at the palace on Wednesday, which will celebrate the film and television industry. She is also slated to attend a Booker Prize reception at Clarence House on Tuesday, November 12, but will not mingle with guests as long as initially planned.

Buckingham Palace revealed in a statement last week that Camilla was battling a chest infection.

“Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest,” a palace spokesperson said on November 5. “With great regret, Her Majesty has therefore had to withdraw from her engagements for this week, but she very much hopes to be recovered in time to attend this weekend’s Remembrance events as normal.”

When it came time for the annual celebrations, Camilla’s health stopped her from stepping out in public. The queen wasn’t well enough to join senior members of the royal family, including Prince William, Kate Middleton and others, at the Festival of Remembrance at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Saturday, November 9.

Camilla’s illness comes just after she and Charles completed an overseas trip to Australia and Samoa. This was his first major royal tour after getting diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer earlier this year. Going forward, Charles is set to continue his normal travel schedule — even as his chemotherapy treatments continue.

“We’re now working on a pretty normal-looking full overseas tour program for next year, which is a high point for us, knowing that we can think in those terms,” a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said in a statement last month.
