Why I want to quit music industry for traveling ministry, by Rich Men North of Richmond country star Oliver Anthony

Two-time Billboard Music Award nominee Oliver Anthony is quitting his career as a successful musician.

The Rich Men North of Richmond star, 32, took to his Instagram comments to reveal that he is ‘in the process of getting out of the music industry’ because ‘it’s a big joke,’ after he was praised for his musical talents.

In late October, a fan took to his comments to rhapsodize the The Rich Men North of Richmond star’s discography, calling him ‘everything that is right in the music industry.’

And the singer responded with the shocking claim he was setting his sights on ‘travelling ministry work’ while he worked through the logistics of quitting the industry.

‘It’s all part of this Rural Revival thing. I just have to go at  it in baby steps since it’s completely DIY,’ he told the devoted fan.

Anthony — born Christopher Anthony Lunsford — said: ‘no I’ll still be releasing music just like normal, I’ll just be set up legally as a ministry.’

On Monday, the Ain’t Gotta Dollar hitmaker took to his Instagram page to announce that he was hitting Australia for a stint of shows in March 2025.

He will play at various venues in Brisbane, Cairns, Newcastle, Sydney and Melbourne from March 7 to March 16.

Tickets are slated to go on sale on Friday, November 15 at 11:00 a.m. local time.

‘I’m bringing my music down under, and I’d love for you to be there. Tickets go on sale this Friday, 15 November, at 11 am local time. Set those reminders, and let me know in the comments where you’re joining me,’ he said under the announcement post.

Just days before saying he was ‘getting out of the music industry’, the singer announced that he would be traveling Europe from January to February.

His string of shows will start on January 30 in Oslo, Norway and ending on February 24 in Dublin, Ireland.

And the guitarist added a lengthy message to his fans about the order of his tour and common goals he sees between in his fans and himself.

‘The 2025 European tour is right around the corner! I chose to do Europe, Australia, and then the US for a specific reason. Until I visited Europe and Australia during this years tour, I had no idea how similar we all lived. I ᴀssumed we were completely different. It’s not anything like on TV.

‘The fact is, there is much of rural and small town Europe that reminds me of older times in North America. Even so, both of our homelands have very much lost their way,’ he penned.

He finished: ‘We all share many of the same common goals. It’s time for us to figure out how to network and connect. I have a dream of the Scottish and Irish visiting the now empty and ignored parts of Appalachia their own once settled.

‘Or people living in England, who are tired of the oppression and looking for their rights and more room, settling back on abandoned American farms so desperately deserving of a second chance.

‘Times are changing, and we must unite if we’re going to survive all of this mess. The entire world right now feels like it’s teeter- tottering on a ledge,’ he shared.
