Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has finally addressed his on-set behavior controversy which ignited earlier this year as it was reported that he was chronically late and even urinated in bottles.
The 52-year-old actor is featured in the latest ‘Men Of The Year’ edition of GQ magazine where he touched on several topics including claims that his chronic tardiness on set of new film Red One caused $50million to be added to the budget of the film bringing it to a staggering total of $250million.
Sources claimed to The Wrap back in April that the action man – whose WWE persona nickname is ‘The Final Boss’ – had showed up on set as many as eight hours late and that the film crew had to shoot around him.
He told GQ: ‘Yeah, that happens. But not that amount, by the way. That was a bananas amount. That’s crazy. Ridiculous.’
One of the more interesting claims was that on sets of previous films, Johnson would often urinate into a water bottle to save time which crew members were not pleased with.

When asked about those claims in the new feature, Johnson also admitted to those claims as he replied: ‘Yeah. That happens.’
At the time an An insider who The Wrap claims to know the movie star well said: ‘On set, away from his trailer, if he needs to pee, he doesn’t go to the public bathroom.
‘He pees in a Voss water bottle and his team or a PA has to dispose of it.’
There were even claims to The Wrap that not only was the star an ‘average of seven or eight hours’ late per day, he also missed entire days of production leading to the production cost being upped by eight figures.
‘It was a f***ing disaster,’ one insider told The Wrap while another said: ‘Dwayne truly doesn’t give a f***.’
However, The Rock called the overall controversy ‘bulls***’ in the latest issue of GQ.
Red One co-star Chris Evans backed Johnson to the publication as he said: ‘In terms of the guy that I saw, compared to some of the things I’ve seen on other movies with other actors who are not only not conscious of other people’s time and efforts, but they’re unpredictable?
‘I found Dwayne to be — we all know exactly what he’s going to do when he’s going to do it.’

As it has been said that Dwayne had often worked out in the mornings before coming on set, the 43-year-old actor Chris said that it was always understood it would be that way.
The Captain America star said: ‘But this is something that the producers, the director, and it’s all his team, so they all know this. So it’s all basic. It’s not like he’s late unexpectedly, and I wouldn’t even call it late.
‘He comes in slightly later on certain mornings, but it’s part of the plan. It’s worked into the schedules and everyone knows it, so he shows up when he’s scheduled to show up.’
Chris once again came to the aid of his castmate and tried to steer away from the controversy as he highlighted one day on set where Dwayne had given out a combined $100K to various crewmembers on set.
He explained: ‘The [giveaway] pot was up to four or five grand or something, and before they pulled the name out, Dwayne said, “What’s the pot at right now?”
‘And someone said, “I don’t know, four grand.” And he said, “Let’s call it 20.” And they pulled out a name and whoever won was losing it. Dwayne said, “You know what? Should we do it again? How about 30 this time?” Everyone goes nuts. And then he says, “You know what? How about one more?” And it was 50. I think on one Friday, Dwayne gave away something like close to a hundred thousand dollars.’
Red One director Jake Kasdan also backed Dwayne and reinforced Chris’ claims as he said: ‘[Dwayne] never missed a day of work ever.
‘He has a lot going on. He can be late sometimes, but such is Hollywood — that’s the case with everybody. Honestly, I’ve made three big movies with him. I’ve never seen him be anything but great to every single person on the set.’

Back in April, a spokesperson for Amazon MGM – who are the film studio behind the film – responded with a firm denial to the allegations in the original report.
The studio representative told The Wrap: ‘Dwayne Johnson and [producer] Seven Bucks have been incredible partners on Red One—a film that audiences of all ages are going to love this holiday season.
‘Our testing has been very strong — the reaction from CinemaCon speaks for itself — and we couldn’t have made it without Dwayne’s constant work and support. Any reporting that implies that we got to this point with him showing up seven-eight hours late to set is both ridiculous and false.’
Two additional sources close to production also told the publication that Johnson had averaged no more than one hour late to set.
Meanwhile another insider close to Amazon MGM said that the budget never actually veered far from the figure it was greenlit at.
