In what looked like a symbolic pᴀssing of the torch, original Wicked Broadway stars Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth were on hand for the Los Angeles premiere of the much-anticipated film adaptation on Saturday.
The two legendary stars of the theater, who portrayed Elphaba Thropp/Wicked Witch Of The West and Glinda The Good Witch Of The North, respectively, during the initial run on Broadway in 2003, were there in a respectful show of support.
Their film contemporaries, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, would make their grand arrival holding hands while dressed in their characters’ signature colors of green and pink at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Downtown LA.
The duo ultimately met up with Menzel and Chenoweth on the red carpet, where they posed for pH๏τos as a group.
Directed by John M. Chu, Wicked is the origin story of ‘a green-skinned woman who becomes the Wicked Witch of the West.’

It serves as a prequel to The Wizard Of Oz, exploring the narrative before Dorothy’s arrival and delving into the former friendship between the characters Elphaba and Glinda.
Erivo, 37, was effervescent in a bright green, latex dress with Sєxy cutouts highlighting her toned midriff while across her arms she accessorized with a dramatic, feather boa-inspired cape in the same bright green color.
The British actress accessorized with a dazzling necklace oozing in diamonds that features a jaw-dropping emerald at the center, as well as a shiny, silver nose ring and mᴀssive diamond earrings.
Grande, 31, looked pretty in pink in a gingham-patterned, 1950s-inspired swing dress with a taffeta, puff-sleeve shrug.
Opting for a monochromatic look, the actress and pop star’s pink dress featured a voluminous skirt with a high-low drop hem, which was matched perfectly with pink, gingham gloves.
She also strutted her stuff while wearing sparkly, rhinestone encrusted pumps.
Rounding out her overall look, Grande pulled her hair back into a polished bun to showcase her pearl earrings, and added a cute ribbon to the mix.
