Beetlejuice 2 (2026)

The long-awaited sequel to Tim Burton’s 1988 cult classic Beetlejuice is finally here, and it’s more twisted, more eccentric, and more chaotic than ever. Beetlejuice 2 (2026) brings back the iconic mischievous ghost, played by Michael Keaton, alongside a fresh new cast that includes Johnny Depp and Jenna Ortega, who are poised to bring their own brand of weirdness to this delightfully spooky world.

Years have pᴀssed since the haunting events in the Deetz household, but the paranormal chaos is far from over. In this sequel, we meet Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder), now an adult and a bestselling author of supernatural fiction, living in a gloomy mansion far away from the troubled past. However, when her daughter Amelia (Jenna Ortega) inadvertently awakens the restless spirit of Beetlejuice, the family is once again thrown into a bizarre and otherworldly adventure.

Beetlejuice, ever the troublemaker, causes havoc in the mortal world, this time dragging Lydia and Amelia into the afterlife, where the rules of reality no longer apply. They encounter even weirder and more unpredictable spirits, including new characters played by Johnny Depp, whose role is shrouded in mystery but promises to add a fresh dose of eccentricity to the mix. As they try to escape Beetlejuice’s influence and return home, Lydia must confront her past while her daughter learns the value of embracing the strange and the unusual.

Humor & Quirkiness: As with the original, Beetlejuice 2 thrives on its quirky humor. Michael Keaton’s return as the chaos-loving ghost brings a perfect balance of dark humor and absurdity, while Depp and Ortega’s fresh dynamic adds new layers of weirdness. Depp’s character is likely to be a strange, unpredictable force – adding to the wild unpredictability of the afterlife.

Visuals & Set Design: Burton’s signature gothic style is ever-present, with the film’s visuals drenched in eccentricity and surreal beauty. From the haunting, outlandish landscapes of the afterlife to the spooky (and often comical) creatures lurking around every corner, Beetlejuice 2 is a visual treat. Expect vibrant, offbeat colors and whimsical set designs that capture the essence of the original while pushing the limits of imagination.

Character Growth: While the film leans heavily on nostalgia, it also dives deeper into Lydia’s emotional journey. Her relationship with her daughter becomes the emotional core of the film, with a focus on breaking free from the past and accepting the absurdity of life (and death). Amelia, played by Jenna Ortega, brings a new, fresh perspective as a teenager caught in a supernatural storm, navigating her relationship with her eccentric family while dealing with the supernatural chaos.

Action and Fantasy: The film isn’t short on outlandish antics, as Beetlejuice’s antics escalate, and the characters find themselves caught in larger-than-life scenarios that are both visually spectacular and emotionally charged. Expect intense chase scenes, wild transformations, and classic Beetlejuice absurdity, with a mix of practical and digital effects that stay true to the spirit of the original.
