After years of speculation and fan anticipation, Mamma Mia 3 is officially in the works — and it’s shaping up to be the most heartwarming, sun-soaked musical adventure yet. Following the mᴀssive success of the original 2008 hit and its 2018 prequel/sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, this third installment promises to close the trilogy with a perfect blend of nostalgia, family legacy, new love stories, and, of course, iconic ABBA music.
Set once again on the picturesque shores of Kalokairi (filmed in Greece or Croatia), Mamma Mia 3 will explore Sophie’s journey into motherhood, her evolving relationship with her late mother Donna’s legacy, and the next phase in the lives of her three “dads” — Harry, Sam, and Bill. As Sophie raises her young son Donny, she begins to reflect on her mother’s strength, independence, and the unconventional choices that brought their family together.
But Sophie won’t be the only one facing life-changing revelations. Each of the characters will confront their pasts, make unexpected discoveries, and rediscover the beauty of second chances. There are strong hints that the story will also introduce a new generation, potentially through a character played by Sabrina Carpenter, rumored to be cast as a young cousin or relative with dreams of her own.
No Mamma Mia film is complete without unforgettable ABBA tracks, and this third movie promises to deliver an irresistible soundtrack. While the film will feature classic ABBA hits not yet used in the series, producers are also eyeing songs from ABBA’s 2021 reunion album Voyage, including “Don’t Shut Me Down,” “I Still Have Faith in You,” and “No Doubt About It.” These tracks bring a mature, reflective tone — perfectly aligning with the film’s themes of growth, forgiveness, and rediscovery.
Expect explosive dance numbers, quiet tearjerkers, and glittering group performances that will light up cinemas and hearts alike.
