Russell Wilson left stunned as sold-out crowd BOO him at MetLife ahead of his first season with the Giants

Russell Wilson is the new face of the New York Giants but the veteran NFL quarterback was given a brutal reception by the crowd at MetLife Stadium on Sunday night.

The 36-year-old and his family were among the crowd at WWE SummerSlam, which took place at his new home stadium over the weekend.

Russell even brought a specially-designed Giants championship belt. But when he appeared on the jumbotron, many inside MetLife booed the quarterback.

The 82,000-seater stadium is, of course, also the home of the Giants’ rivals, the Jets, with the two New York teams meeting at MetLife for a preseason game on August 16.

Wilson is a 10-time Pro Bowler and a Super Bowl winner who spent last season at the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The veteran quarterback joined New York in March after agreeing a one-year deal  worth up to $21million with the Giants.

He has moved to the East Coast with his wife, singer Ciara, and their four children. The Giants also signed Jameis Winston and drafted Jaxson Dart but Wilson was recently named the starter for 2025.

Brian Daboll’s team will begin the season at the Washington Commanders before travelling to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2.

Wilson’s first chance to wow the crowd at MetLife will come on September 21, when the Kansas City Chiefs are in town.

On Sunday night, he watched from the front row as Brock Lesnar controversially returned to WWE after two years in exile due to his alleged involvement in the Vince McMahon lawsuit

Lesnar last appeared for the company at SummerSlam in 2023 and was written off television despite being one of the company’s biggest stars at the time allegedly due to his ties to the McMahon litigation.

Lesnar is not a defendant in the lawsuit, despite being named on multiple occasions in a court filing, and has not commented on the incident publicly since being named in it back in February.
