Jerry Jones risks more outrage from Cowboys stars after brutal take on Micah Parsons' trade request

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has delivered a brutal verdict on Micah Parsons’ decision to submit an official trade request.

The Cowboys’ top defensive star, 26, had been locked in a tense standoff with the franchise throughout the offseason as they failed to reach an agreement over a new contract extension.

And with no deal in sight heading into the second week of training camp, the pᴀss rusher has officially attempted to force his way out of Jones’s team.

Parsons announced that he had formally submitted a trade request in a bombshell statement on social media Friday afternoon, saying: ‘I no longer want to be here.’

Reports later emerged that a number of Cowboys stars had turned on owner Jones in the wake of Parsons’ contract demand but it appears their owner is unbothered.

Speaking publicly about the matter for the first time on Saturday afternoon, Jones told reporters: ‘I would say to our fans, don’t lose any sleep over this.’

When asked whether he was considering Parsons’ trade request, the Dallas owner said: ‘I’m not. The facts are that I think the world of Micah, and that’s just a part of negotiation.

‘I don’t place that with any real seriousness, Micah’s got a bad back. That’s like being traded, we all weight it the same.’

Parsons and Jones haven’t always seen eye-to-eye and, back in April, the Dallas star sparked a war of words with Jones over comments about the pᴀss rusher’s agent.

Asked about the contract talks at the time, Jones told reporters he didn’t know Mulugheta’s name and that he was ‘not a factor’ in negotiations.

Parsons, a four-time Pro Bowler with 52.5 career sacks, caught wind of those comments and stood up for his agent.

‘David is the best and I will not be doing any deal without [him] involved!,’ he wrote on X. ‘Like anyone with good sense I hired experts for a reason.

‘There is no one I trust more when it comes to negotiating contracts than David! There will be no backdoors in this contract negotiation.’

Meanwhile, just last month, Jones bizarrely quipped about the pᴀss rusher’s injury history when discussing the ongoing contract dispute.

‘Just because we sign him doesn’t mean we’re gonna have him. He was hurt six games last year,’ Jones said.

Meanwhile, in the wake of Parsons’ bombshell request, multiple Dallas stars have now turned on team owner Jones after he has fumbled the contract situation.

CeeDee Lamb posted a message to X about the situation, while Trevon Diggs, DeMarvion Overshown, and Juanyeh Thomas all switched social-media profile pictures to images of Parsons.

The messy situation puts the team in a bind, as Parsons looks for a raise, appearing to want to become one of the NFL’s highest-paid defensive stars after the contract Myles Garrett signed with the Browns earlier this year.

‘Never fails dawg. Just pay the man, what you owe em. No need for the extra curricular,’ Lamb said on social media.

Last offseason, Lamb and quarterback Dak Prescott both had to wait until near the end of training camp to receive their huge pay bumps.

Jones also commented on those deals on Saturday as he discussed the stall in negotiations with Parsons.

He explained: ‘It seems like we forget less than a year I paid the highest that’s been paid in the NFL to Dak [Prescott], and I paid a big price for [CeeDee] Lamb.

However, Jones made reference to the huge deals offered to CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott

‘Anybody that says I’m not interested in financially rewarding my players hasn’t been looking at the tea leaves. There’s always, always negotiation, and the negotiation is to put the best team on the field.’

On Friday, Parsons posted a long statement to social media with his thoughts on the situation – ‘I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys,’ he wrote in part. ‘My trade request has been submitted to (CEO) Stephen Jones personally.’

Parsons has now pushed his demands further than any Cowboys player has under Jones’ ownership, putting the 82-year-old in a bind.

Parsons also wrote of ‘repeated sH๏τs at myself’ in his statement, decreasing the likelihood cooler heads eventually prevail.

The defensive end joins fellow NFC East star Terry McLaurin as requesting a trade while waiting for a huge contract in recent days.

McLaurin’s situation is nowhere as messy as the wide receiver has not disparaged anyone within his own organization.

Parsons is set to make $21.3million this season as part of an extension on his rookie contract, nearly half of what Garrett will take home.

Parsons had 52.5 sacks in his first four seasons, trailing only Reggie White (70), Derrick Thomas (58), JJ Watt (57) and DeMarcus Ware (53.5), on the all-time list.

The defender only had a dozen sacks last season due to sitting out four games with an ankle injury.
