Miami Dolphins hit with another devastating injury blow with plans for 2025 season in turmoil

Miami Dolphins star cornerback Kader Kohou is out for the season after suffering a knee injury during Saturday’s training-camp practice.

Kohou’s injury, as he is viewed as the leader in the Dolphins’ secondary, only compounds a mᴀssive problem for the team, with its anchor in one of its weakest position groups now unavailable until 2026.

Kohou turned a successful Division II football career into a long-standing NFL stay after signing with Miami in 2022 after going undrafted.

Now, the entire Dolphins’ secondary from last season is no longer active with the team.

Jalen Ramsey was traded to the Steelers, Kendall Fuller was released, Kohou is gone for the season, and the duo of Jordan Poyer and Jevon Holland are still free agents.

Miami will now rely on a clean slate of defensive backs in a division where they will play Josh Allen, Drake Maye, and Justin Fields six times this season.

On the roster as a whole, Kohou’s injury is not the first mᴀssive hole for Mike McDaniel to fill.

Dolphins offensive lineman Bayron Matos was airlifted to a local medical facility after suffering an injury in the final few minutes of the first practice session of this year’s camp last week. Matos was only released from the hospital on Tuesday.

Kohou’s injury is not the only one for the defensive backs over the last week as well, as veteran cornerback Artie Burns reportedly tore his ACL and is out for the season too.

Among the team’s healthy players, none may be more important than quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

And in another sorrow moment for Miami, they appear to not be on good terms after how Hill ended his 2024 campaign by taking himself out of its season finale against the Jets and saying he was done with the team.

Hill later walked back those comments. However, it is clear for Tagovailoa that not all is forgotten.

‘When you say something like that you don’t just come back with “My bad.” You gotta work that relationship up. He is working on himself,’ Tagovailoa told reporters when asked about Hill’s fiery comments.

In addition to his cryptic Week 18 message, Hill courted further controversy when he appeared to take a swipe at Tagovailoa himself.

The receiver was asked by a fan on social media to rank the best quarterbacks in the league and he pᴀssed over his own signal caller, who missed parts of the 2024 season after suffering another concussion.

Hill’s picks were Allen, Ravens star Lamar Jackson, Chiefs icon Patrick Mahomes, Buccaneers star Baker Mayfield and Bengals signal caller Joe Burrow.

Kohou will be a free agent heading into 2026, as he signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins during the offseason.

Miami does not have to wait long to see all of its divisional opponents in 2025. After a season opener against the Colts, Weeks 2 through 4 each has an AFC East opponent for the Dolphins.

After that, the Dolphins do not play another divisional game until Week 10, one Sunday before their international game in Madrid against the Washington Commanders.
