Malik Nabers gives New York Giants major injury worry after leaving practice hurt

Malik Nabers gave the New York Giants a major injury headache on Tuesday after leaving his team’s practice with an apparent left shoulder injury.

According to multiple reports from training camp, Nabers got hurt while blocking on a run play before going down in pain.

The second-year wideout reportedly held his shoulder as he left the field before getting looked at by the Giants’ trainer in the team’s field house.

From there, Nabers did not return to practice as ESPN’s Jordan Raanan said the wide receiver ‘appears done for the day.’

While the Giants may just be treating Nabers’ shoulder issue with caution, the scare will concern fans with the team just a couple of weeks from preseason starting.

Nabers was mostly durable in his rookie season – aside from missing two games due to a concussion – though he has previously dealt with shoulder injuries.

The former LSU star missed a pair of college games in 2021 due to a shoulder issue, and reportedly suffered a shoulder injury during a contest in 2023.

After a hugely promising rookie season, the Giants will hope that Nabers is healthy for Week 1 with Russell Wilson now under center for the team.

Playing with a combination of Daniel Jones, Drew Lock, Tommy DeVito and Tim Boyle last year, Nabers posted 109 receptions for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns.

And it’s clear Wilson has liked what he’s seen from his new teammate thus far.

‘Malik and I have a great relationship. He has the locker right next to me actually, and we got to spend a lot of time in San Diego [before training camp] together,’ Wilson told reporters.

‘I just love how he works. A lot of times you get talented guys and their work ethic is super high, but can they keep it consistent? That’s what you’re always looking for. And I think his consistency and his love for the game, his consistency in his playmaking, his tenacity for the game, his leadership, his thought process, communication.’

The Giants – who also signed Jameis Winston and drafted Jaxson Dart this offseason – are expecting improved play at the quarterback position with Super Bowl winner Wilson.

The quarterback was named a Pro Bowler after throwing 16 touchdowns and averaging 225.6 pᴀssing yards per contest for the Steelers in 11 games last year.

However, the Giants will have to endure the toughest schedule in the NFL as they look to return to the postseason in 2025.

They open the season on September 7 against the Commanders.
