Kansas City Chiefs first-round draft selection Josh Simmons threw a punch at fellow rookie teammate Ashton Gillotte as part of the team’s training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri on Tuesday morning.
The linemen on opposite sides of the football went to war in the trenches in the scorching western Missouri heat, with Simmons tossing Gillotte to the ground during a one-on-one drill.
That led to the scrum between Gillotte and Simmons during a 9-on-7 period, where they got tangled during a run play.
After the Patrick Mahomes handoff went away from the duo, the fracas began as Simmons finished his block with authority.
Gillotte tugged at Simmons’ jersey and shoved him once the whistle had officially gone.
Then came the right-handed strike from Simmons to Gillotte, which did not seem to faze the defender. Gillotte threw a punch of his own before drawing the attention of teammates around them to separate the fight.

Kansas City Chiefs’ Josh Simmons threw a punch at fellow rookie teammate Ashton Gillotte
The altercation took place between Gillotte and Simmons on Tuesday during training camp
As the two behemoths get untangled, Gillotte rips Simmons’ helmet off, with the former Ohio State standout walking back to his next drill with his head exposed.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, a former offensive lineman and position coach in his own right, was near the fight, with him not appearing two distraught by seeing two of his rookies swinging on each other.
Simmons, who was the last pick of the first round in April’s draft, has come in with mᴀssive expectations to help stabilize the shaky Chiefs’ offensive line that led to the team’s downfall in last season’s Super Bowl.
That compeтιтion sparked the fight, as skirmishes in training camp have become common around the NFL. On Tuesday alone, Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said their preseason practice from over the weekend was cut short due to fights.
In 2023, Chiefs тιԍнт end Travis Kelce was seen fighting Jack Cochrane during a training-camp practice.
