Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl winner Jordan Hicks retires from NFL at age 33

Jordan Hicks, a Super Bowl winner with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2018, has retired from the NFL at the age of 33.

Linebacker Hicks, who had been with the Cleveland Browns since 2024, posted a statement announcing the end of his career on Friday morning.

‘I walk away with peace knowing I gave football all I had and that the best is yet to come,’ Hicks wrote.

He had missed the first two days of training with the Browns with what the team said was ‘a personal matter’.

His statement continued: ‘Football has given me more than I could have ever imagined. Purpose, discipline, brotherhood and a platform to impact others.

‘But most importantly, it showed me who I am outside the game.’

The news gives the Browns cause for concern, too. Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, the other top linebacker in Cleveland, is already set to miss the 2025 campaign due to a neck issue.

Now, the retirement announcement by Hicks leaves the team with two significant gaps that need filling before the first game of the season against the Cincinnati Bengals on September 7.

Hicks played three years with the Eagles after they picked him in the third round of the 2015 Draft.

He started 35 games for the team across those three years. While he has a Super Bowl ring, he missed the team’s run to football’s showpiece game after tearing his Achilles in Week 7 of the season.

He joined the Arizona Cardinals and also played for the Minnesota Vikings during his career. He leaves the NFL with 952 tackles, 16.5 sacks and 13 interceptions to his name across 134 appearances, 131 of which were starts.
