Alex Rodriguez and his billionaire business partner Marc Lore have rebuked the notion they can no longer have the controlling stake of the Minnesota Timberwolves. 

In a statement to DailyMail.com, a spokesperson for Rodriguez said the duo has ‘fulfilled our obligations’ and they have ‘all necessary funding’ to buy the Timberwolves. 

Earlier Thursday, Taylor put out a statement saying Rodriguez and Lore did not complete the agreement and the Timberwolves were no longer for sale. 

Lore and Rodriguez dispute that, calling Taylor’s actions ‘an unfortunate case of seller’s remorse’.  

Rodriguez and Lore entered an agreement with Taylor in 2021 to buy the Timberwolves and the WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx for around $1.5million. The Timberwolves were last valued at $2.8 billion, per Sportico.

‘We are disappointed with Glen Taylor’s public statement today,’ the statement from Rodriguez and Lore said. ‘We have fulfilled our obligations, have all necessary funding and are fully committed to closing our purchase of the team as soon as the NBA completes its approval process.’ 

‘Glen Taylor’s statement is an unfortunate case of seller’s remorse that is short sighted and disruptive to the team and the fans during a historic winning season,’ the statement concluded. 

Lore and Rodriguez already controlled 40 percent of the team, with their latest agreement looking to bring the pair’s total to 80 percent. 

Rodriguez’s post-baseball career has been dominated by broadcasting and entrepreneurship.

Acquiring the Timberwolves and Lynx would have been Rodriguez’s first ownership of a professional sports team after he failed to buy the New York Mets in 2020.

The Timberwolves are currently in second place in the Western Conference, a half-game behind the Nuggets for first.
