Nyheim Hines set to make NFL return with Chargers after two-year injury absence

Nyheim Hines is back and ready to go.

The Chargers signed the 28-year-old running back on Monday after two seasons on the sidelines due to injury.

Hines played in the NFL for six years before another person crashed into his jet ski in July 2023, causing a tear in his ACL and LCL and ending his hopes of returning as the Bills’ kickoff and punt returner.

Despite being released by the Bills after his lone season with the team, he was picked up by the Browns, but didn’t recover from his injuries in time to see any 2024 action.

Hines’ return won’t get any easier as he tests his recovery and enters the Chargers’ loaded running back book.

Los Angeles signed former Steelers back Najee Harris and drafted Omari Hampton.

Hines will also have to battle Kimani Vidal, Hᴀssan Haskins and Jarett Patterson for a spot to get playing time — but he could add some veteran leadership to the room.

Hines, a fourth-round pick of the Colts in 2018, has a total of 2,980 scrimmage yards and 18 touchdowns in his carrer.

His best season was in 2020 when he totaled 380 yards and three touchdowns.
