New York Jets star Garrett Wilson agrees historic nine-figure contract extension

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson has reached an agreement over a new four-year, $130million contract with the team, according to reports.

Wilson’s new deal, which will see him bank an estimated $90m guaranteed, makes him the first receiver in NFL history to earn an average of over $31m per year after playing only three seasons in the league.

ESPN was first to break the news of the 24-year-old’s extension, which keeps him with the Jets through 2030.

Wilson is gearing up for his fourth season in New York after being selected with the 10th overall pick in the first round of the 2022 draft.

After 51 appearances he has racked up 279 receptions for 3,249 yards and 14 touchdowns, albeit without reaching the playoffs in each of his three seasons.

The Jets finished bottom of the AFC with a 7-10 record in his rookie year, before an early season-ending injury to superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers saw them finish a place higher with the same record in 2023.

Last season proved catastrophic for the franchise despite Rodgers returning from his Achilles tear, with the firing of head coach Robert Saleh after a 2-3 start to the season failing to make an impact when interim replacement Jeff Ulbrich suffered nine defeats in 12 games.

Back in April, the Jets picked up their fifth-year option on Wilson to end speculation over his future, while also doing the same with his teammates Sauce Gardner and Jermaine Johnson II.

‘You know, I’m hopeful I’m a Jet for life,’ Wilson said back in May. ‘And that we get this thing rolling and that all of our best days are ahead of us.’

He also added about contract negotiations at the time: ‘When the time does come and those conversations are being had, I’m going to try to do my part to make sure that it’s undeniable.’
