NBA legend Charles Barkley has detailed the wild story of when his errant golf sH๏τ led to the brutal death of a duck.
Barkley is currently taking part in the American Century Championship on the shores of Lake Tahoe. He has competed in the event – which this year brings 90 celebrities to Stateline – for the last three decades.
On Friday, the Hall of Famer sH๏τ his best ever round, which included an eagle on the second hole.
After his round, Barkley was asked if he had ever before gone two-under-par on a single hole at Edgewood. Instead, he revealed that it was ‘the closest I’ve come to a bird’ since his sH๏τ led to a ‘caveman’ snapping a duck’s neck – and then drowning it in the lake.
‘About five years ago, on a par-4 down the hill, I snap-hooked my drive into a family of duck, geese, whatever you all call them,’ Barkley said.
‘When we got down there, it was on the ground. I clearly had broken his neck or something. (This) dude starts screaming, “You gotta put it out of its misery!”

‘I’m like, “What the f*** are you talking about?” He said, “It’s not going to make it.” So these girls start screaming, “Don’t do it, don’t do it!”
‘And this caveman goes over and pops the duck’s neck, throws it in the lake. It doesn’t die. He dives in the lake and drowns it.
‘And I’m playing with Larry The Cable Guy and another comedian who had been cracking jokes nonstop the whole day. And when this happened, I said, “You all got anything?”
‘They are like, “No, we never seen no s*** like that before.” So technically I didn’t kill the geese, he killed the geese. I hurt him. So don’t have PETA calling me. I don’t even know the dude’s name who drowned the duck… so to answer your question, no.’
The NBA legend was for years among the worst golfers at this popular event. But he achieved his best-ever finish last year, when he came 58th.
And a year on, he holed out from 88 yards on the par-4 second hole en route to a first-round 81.
‘No, I never had an eagle before. That was such a cool thing because I hit a good drive and a good sH๏τ. We couldn’t see the green. And I knew I hit a good sH๏τ, and then I guess it (spun) and went in,’ he continued. ‘But we couldn’t see it because it’s uphill. When they went crazy, it made my day.’
