Tampa Bay Buccaneers star Tristan Wirfs set to miss start of 2025 season in major injury blow

Tampa Bay Buccaneers star Tristan Wirfs has been dealt a mᴀssive injury blow ahead of the 2025 NFL season.

The left tackle is expected to miss the start of the regular season and could be out for at least four games due to a knee injury, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Wirfs underwent surgery on his right knee Tuesday after sustaining an injury to the joint, which forced him to miss one game during last season.

The 26-year-old is now reportedly expected to start the upcoming campaign on the physically unable to perform list, meaning he will miss at least four of the Buccaneers’ opening games.

The two-time All-Pro had attempted to battle through the injury during Tampa Bay’s offseason program sporting a brace on the knee. However, following multiple setbacks, he reportedly opted to undergo surgery.

Wirfs, Tampa Bay’s first-round selection in the 2020 draft, started 16 games last season, earning his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl nod.

His absence comes as a huge blow to the Buccaneers with Wirfs usually protecting the blind side of quarterback Baker Mayfield, one of his closest friends on the team.

Tampa Bay brought in former San Francisco 49ers left tackle Charlie Heck in free agency, who is expected to replace Wirfs during his stint on the sidelines.

Wirfs was the Bucs’ first-round pick out of Iowa in 2020 and the tackle immediately went on to help Tampa Bay win the Super Bowl alongside Tom Brady.

The Iowa product has appeared in 79 games – all starts – during his five-year career in Tampa Bay.
