NFL star Kirk Cousins slams his own team and claims he was 'misled' after they drafted another quarterback

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins seems slighted by his team’s decision making last season, which led to him eventually being supplanted from his starting role.

Cousins made a big-money move in free agency in 2024, signing a four-year, $180million deal with the Falcons after a lengthy career with the Minnesota Vikings.

The 36-year-old quarterback’s move was criticized at the time by fans, who saw the contract as too expensive for an aging gunslinger.

It was further scrutinized when the Falcons picked a quarterback eighth overall in the 2024 NFL Draft – selecting Michael Penix Jr out of the University of Washington.

In the latest season of the Netflix series ‘Quarterback’, Cousins seemed to have second thoughts about his choice of team.

‘Certainly, if I had that information around free agency, it would’ve affected my decision,’ Cousins said.

‘I had no reason to leave Minnesota, with how much we loved it there, if both teams were going to be drafting a quarterback high.

‘But I’ve also learned in 12 years in this league that you’re not enтιтled to anything — it’s all about earning your spot and proving yourself.’

While Cousins may feel hard done by the Falcons, no one can blame the team for making the objectively correct decision for their season last year.

Cousins struggled mᴀssively in Atlanta, eventually losing the starting job to Penix – who nearly got the Falcons to the playoffs.

Penix is projected to start in Week 1 for the Falcons this coming season while Cousins will be taking a back seat on the depth chart.
