The erotic mural was found in a bedroom and shows the queen of Sparta being impregnated by the bird

ARCHAEOLOGISTS digging in Pompeii have found a fresco depicting a naked woman having Sєx with a swan.
The erotic mural shows the queen of Sparta from Greek mythology being impregnated by the bird.

Experts say the figure of Leda with the swan, which represents Roman god Zeus, is a common theme in Pompeii home decoration.
But Mᴀssimo Osanna, director of the ancient city’s archaeological park, described this fresco as “exceptional” – because the woman appears to be looking at whoever entered the bedroom.
He told Italian news agency ANSA: “Leda watches the spectator with a sensuality that’s absolutely pronounced.”
The preserved artwork, which still has its colours intact, was found on Friday during work to consolidate the city’s structures after rain and wear-and-tear in past years caused some of the ruins to collapse.

It was discovered in a bedroom located near a corridor by the entrance way to what would have been a wealthy home, where another ancient fresco was found earlier this year, according to the archaeological park.
Pompeii was buried by the volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79.
In the myth, the god Zeus turned into a swan and raped Leda, Queen of Sparta.
That event had huge consequences, according to classical mythology: Leda’s intercourse with the swan and then with her husband, King Tyndareus, resulted in two eggs, from which hatched Helen, Clytemnestra and the twins Castor and Pollux.
Osanna said one theory is that the owner of the home was a rich merchant who wanted to be viewed as being culturally advanced by incorporating myth-inspired frescoes.
