Revealed: Who Cleveland Browns players want as their starting quarterback with Shedeur Sanders in four-way race

It has been revealed who Cleveland Browns players want as their starting quarterback entering next season.

It is a four-man race to become the team’s starting quarterback with the void left by Deshaun Watson, who is likely out for the season with an Achilles injury.

Hoping for the opportunity is the rookie duo of Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel, alongside fellow veteran Kenny Pickett.

Yet, the roster prefers to have Joe Flacco under center in Week 1, including the influential Myles Garrett, per Cleveland.com.

Flacco is in his second tour of duty with Cleveland, having led the team to the playoffs during the 2023 season before spending one year with the Indianapolis Colts.

Sanders was viewed as a sneaky choice to start in Week 1 after his NFL Draft fall from top prospect to fifth-round selection.

The team is likely to retain all four quarterbacks into the regular season, as most franchises typically have three on the active roster, while one is a practice-squad member.

The practice-squad designation looks to be between the two rookies, as Pickett looks to have the second-easiest route to being the starter due to his NFL experience.

Flacco, 40, is not the team’s long-term answer at quarterback, with his possible insertion as the signal caller coming as a way to give the Browns time to make that decision.

Pickett is already on his third NFL team after a promising start to his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. That did not last as the team preferred Russell Wilson and Justin Fields before both of those signal callers left for separate New York teams.

It is only a few weeks before the start of training camp, and less than two months until the start of the NFL season. Only time will tell if the Browns locker room will get its wish.
