Super Bowl-winning QB predicted to lose starting job this season

Super Bowl-winning QB predicted to lose starting job this season

The New York Giants will start the 2025 season with Russell Wilson as their primary signal caller, with the former Super Bowl winner not expected to remain as the team’s top quarterback.

Multiple NFL experts believe Wilson’s time as the Giants starting quarterback may already be dwindling without him officially taking a snap for the team due to emerging rookie Jaxson Dart.

New York traded back into the first round of April’s NFL Draft to select the Ole Miss alumnus, with fans ready to see a fresh face lead the team’s offense.

Giants head coach Brian Daboll may be antsy to start a guy he believes in too, after inheriting Daniel Jones for his first three seasons in the Big Apple.

If New York cannot beat the average expectations set for the team out of the gate, yanking Wilson for Dart is a likely move.

‘It is clear that this is Brian Daboll’s guy,’ NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said. ‘After years and years of running out not his guy, he now gets his guy. I expect Russell Wilson to take the first snap with the first team in the first game for the Giants.’

‘You listen to everything Brian Daboll says, you get an understanding of how far along Jaxson Dart is and where you think he’s going to go. It’s clearly a matter of when, not if.’

The Giants do not have a bye until Week 14, leaving one clear option for the best window to make a quarterback switch, per NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah.

‘Look at that Week 6-to-Week 7, 10-day gap there after the Thursday night game against Philly, which by the way, with that group in Philadelphia, I’d be okay with him missing that game,’ he stated. ‘But that’s kind of where it would be. It would at Denver in Week 7. That’s my early prediction.’

Four of the Giants first six games are against teams that made the postseason last year, with three of them – the Commanders, Eagles, and Chiefs – all making at least their conference championship game.

Rounding out the Giants first six games are road challenges against the Cowboys and Saints, making Wilson’s first weeks playing for New York an extreme challenge.

Despite having Jameis Winston also on the roster, the torch being pᴀssed to Dart seems nearly inevitable.
