Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders stayed coy while breaking his silence on his father Deion’s mystery illness, while trying to become an NFL starter.
Sanders was asked on Tuesday about his dad being away from the Colorado football program during summer workouts, while he is in Ohio as an NFL rookie doing everything he can to make the 53-man Browns’ roster.
Those divided priorities were on Sanders’ mind as he spoke openly about what his father is going through for the first time.
‘I don’t know what’s going on. I’m here not to talk about pops and them. I’m here for the quarterback of the Cleveland Browns,’ Sanders said.
‘I’m focused on learning this playbook and everything I got to do to be the most successful quarterback I can be, be the best teammate I can be. Outside of that, I don’t really have any thoughts or opinions on anything outside this game.’
Sanders is competing for a roster spot, and to be the Browns starter alongside Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco, and Dillon Gabriel.

The Colorado head coach has been at his home in Texas as he deals with an unspecified issue
Over the past few weeks, the Colorado head coach has been at his home in Texas as he deals with an unspecified health issue.
While summer football camps began in Boulder last week, Sanders has not been present due to this issue.
It’s in Sanders’ contract to attend these camps, but this unclear issue has kept him from fulfilling that obligation.
On Sunday, the coach’s eldest son – Deion Sanders Jr. – appeared in a YouTube livestream from the home in Canyon, Texas where he said the former NFL cornerback was in his room and ‘feeling well’.
‘He’ll tell y’all soon enough what he going through, what he went through,’ Deion Jr. said on the livestream.
As for when he may return to Colorado, Deion Jr. said, ‘When we get back in Boulder, I don’t know. I’m waiting until my dad leaves. When he leaves, then I’ll go. Until then, I’m gonna sit here with him.’
