Steelers enter trade talks for Dolphins star Jonnu Smith... but will he be teammates with Aaron Rodgers?

The Pittsburgh Steelers have reportedly re-opened talks over a trade for Miami Dolphins тιԍнт end Jonnu Smith.

It comes amid news that Donald Parham Jr, the former Chargers тιԍнт end who joined Pittsburgh earlier this offseason, is set to miss the 2025 campaign after tearing his Achilles.

Smith is said to be eyeing a new contract with the Dolphins, having signed a two-year, $8.4million deal with Miami last season.

Now, according to ESPN, there is renewed hope that a trade could be completed and the тιԍнт end could land in Pittsburgh.

That is despite Smith’s agent insisting recently that the 29-year-old’s ‘first choice’ is to remain with the Dolphins.

Should the тιԍнт end join Pittsburgh, he could be a teammate of Aaron Rodgers but the legendary quarterback’s future remains up in the air.

The 41-year-old, who was released by the Jets earlier this year, met with the Steelers back in March. But Rodgers teased retirement at the end of the 2024 season and he has yet to confirm whether he will play another year in the NFL.

Smith’s next move is still to be decided, too. As reported by ESPN, the тιԍнт end wants to rework his two-year contract.

‘Jonnu would definitely like to stay in Miami. That’s his first choice,’ Drew Rosenhaus, Smith’s agent, told WSVN-TV.

‘This is where he lives in the offseason. He had a record-breaking season last year. It was the best season ever for a Miami Dolphin тιԍнт end.’

Rosenhaus continued: ‘He broke the team record for receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns for a тιԍнт end and was the team’s single Pro Bowl player. He’s an incredibly valuable part of this team… he went to college at FIU. His dream team is the Dolphins. Hopefully, everything works out where he can stay in Miami.”

Last season, Smith set Dolphins records for receptions (88) and receiving yards (884) by a тιԍнт end. He also earned a first Pro Bowl selection of his career and was Miami’s No 1 receiver for the season.

Now the тιԍнт end could be reunited with Arthur Smith, who is offensive coordinator in Pittsburgh. They previously worked together at the тιтans and the Falcons.
