Mongolia’s 1,000-Year-Old Mummy: Adidas Boots Stir Time Theories

THESE remarkable new pictures show of a 1,000-yea

r-old Mongolian mummy who was uncovered wearing “red ADIDAS boots”.

The well-preserved body of the woman, thought to have been between aged 30 and 40, was found in the Altai mountains alongside a clutch bag, comb and mirror.

Intriguing new details have emerged about a medieval mummy known for her “Adidas” boots which she wore more than a thousand years ago

The red and black striped boots she was wearing have been liked to Adidas trainers

On her feet were modern-looking red and black boots, which were likened to a pair of Adidas trainers, when she was discovered a year ago.

There were also four changes of clothes, a sewing kit, a horse and ram’s head and a knife in her grave.

Galbadrakh Enkhbat, director of the Center of Cultural Heritage of Mongolia, told the Siberian Times: ‘The felt boots are knee length, the soles are leather, and the toecap has sтιтched stripes in bright red colors.

“With these stripes, when the find was made public, they were dubbed as similar to Adidas shoes with the three stripes.”

Scientists now believe the mummy, whose body was found a year ago, sustained a blow to her head before her death

The Mongolian woman, aged between 30 and 40, went to the next life wearing not only her modish footwear but also with a striking clutch bag

He added: “Various sewing utensils were found with her. “This is only our guess, but we think she could have been a seamless stress.”

Scientists have now cleaned her up and believe she suffered a significant blow to her head before her death.

However it’s not known if this was her cause of death – sometime in the 10th century.

Archeologists believe the Turkik burial, the first found in Central Asia, will reveal details of ancient Mongolian life.

The striped felt shoes have been carefully cleaned by experts

Speaking last year when the discovery was made, B. Sukhbaatar, a researcher at Khovd Museum, said: “The finds show us that these people were very skilled craftsmen.

“Given that this was the grave of a simple person, we understood that craft skills were rather well developed.

“The grave was three meters deep.”

Noting the remarkable boots, one Live Leak user said: “Didn’t know they had Adidas back then…”

Another asked: “The mummy had on some Adidas in the first pic?”
