It’s safe to ᴀssume Tyreek Hill is glad the Dolphins were not the Florida-based team to trade a mᴀssive package to draft Travis Hunter Jr.
The controversial Miami receiver shaded the Jaguars’ No. 2 overall pick and two-way phenom while appearing on streamer Adin Ross’ channel recently.
“He gonna be ᴀss,” Hill said while in a limo after being asked for his thoughts on Hunter.
Hill slightly walked back his comments later, according to reports, calling Hunter a “dog.”
The Jaguars and Dolphins only see each other in the preseason this year, preventing what would have a popcorn-worthy showdown between Hill and Hunter.
Hunter, the reigning Heisman winner from Colorado, is a unicorn in the NFL for his ability to play both cornerback and receiver at elite levels.
Many draft pundits had him ranked No. 1 at both positions entering the three-day extravaganza and that’s why the Jaguars traded their 2025 and 2026 first-round picks, plus their 2025 second-round and fourth-round selections, to move up and grab Hunter for first-year head coach Liam Coen.
Hunter spent the “majority” of his time with the team’s offense during organized team activities, per ESPN, while spending time working with the defense during rookie minicamp.
“You’ve just got to get used to it,” Hunter said earlier this month about learning the offensive and defensive schemes, per NFL Network. “It’s just a lot of different types of calls, but other than that, the defense is pretty easy. You’ve just got to get used to the offense.”
Hill may be among those skeptical of whether Hunter can dominate the NFL like he did in college and it’s fair to wonder if Hunter will eventually focus more in one area.
Should he hone in on offense, he will attempt to be a difference-maker like Hill has been in the past.
Hill, 31, is coming off his worst year since joining the Dolphins and there are concerns about both his and the team’s future as this Dolphins core gets older and has yet to win a playoff game.
The polarizing receiver had just 81 catches for 959 yards and six touchdowns while Miami missed the postseason and did not leave his mark on many games.
His offseason has been rocky, with his wife, Keeta Vaccaro, filing for divorce after the cops were called to their Florida condominium for an “ᴀssault in progress.”
She later alleged in a court filing that Hill disappeared for two nights before reappearing to take their infant daughter without her consent.
Hunter, meanwhile, just got married to Leanna Lenee, with the two celebrating in lavish fashion.
He gifted his new wife a car reportedly worth at least $100,000.
