Giants rookie QB refuses to pay teammate for jersey number: 'It's too much'

It’s common in the NFL for players who are commonly ᴀssociated with one particular playing number to be forced to either make a deal or pay off any player currently on the roster that wears the same digit.

For New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, the No. 2 he wore while in college is currently occupied by one of his new teammates – Deonte Banks.

Banks, a second-year cornerback, is wearing that number after previously making another switch.

When the Giants signed quarterback Russell Wilson, the incoming Super Bowl-champion made a deal with Banks to get his No. 3.

After that, Banks made the move to No. 2 – which Dart later wanted off of him.

But, speaking to Cllct Media, Dart says his pursuit of his college number is off after he heard the ‘price tag’ that Banks placed on it.

‘Yeah, it’s too much,’ Dart said while laughing. ‘Too much.’

Adding to Dart’s unfortunate luck, the only reason No. 2 is available is because quarterback Drew Lock is not with the Giants anymore – leading Banks to pick the vacant number.

As a result, Dart has been seen in practices wearing the number 6 instead. Not even Dart knows if that will be the final number he puts on his jersey.

“I think we’ll come to a final decision here soon,” Dart said. “Quite honestly, I kind of have to just look at the pictures to see if I like myself in No. 6.”

While Dart has not officially signed his rookie deal, he is expected to ink a four-year, $16.9million deal – with a $9m signing bonus.
