After revealing that he finally created an Instagram account, Charles Barkley received a crash course from his TNT crew on all things social media – particularly ‘sliding in the DMs’.

During Thursday’s NBA coverage, Barkley confirmed his social media presence on air with Shaquille O’Neal, Adam Lefkoe, and Kenny Smith. The NBA legend and analyst revealed that he created an Instagram ‘for business purposes.’

After sharing his handle, Smith asked Barkley if he would be ‘sliding into people’s DMs’, which prompted his curious colleague to ask questions.

‘I don’t even know what that means,’ Barkley said. ‘You gotta teach me how to slide [in DMs].’

The crew laughed at the thought of Barkley performing the act and described him sending people direct messages as ‘the worst possible thing’. After strongly advising him against it, his fellow panelists quizzed Barkley to see if he knew what the phrase meant.

The NBA Hall of Famer told his TNT colleagues that he mad the account ‘for business purposes’

Barkley has since shared pictures with UFC Chief Dana White and DJ Khaled on his Instagram 

‘Can we ask what you think ‘sliding into the DMs’ means,’ Lefkoe said.

‘When you try to get somebody a message,’ Barkley guessed before the cast applauded his familiarity with the slang. O’Neal then followed up by asking Barkley if he knew how to add something to his Instagram story.

‘I’ve never used it, I got somebody [posting],’ Barkley answered. ‘Montell and Eleanor. I’m learning man, I’ve only had it for like a week.’

The crew continued to tell Barkley about the dos and don’ts on Instagram with Lefkoe warning him about liking posts.

‘Can I give you one piece of advice,’ the host said. ‘When you like something, other people can see it. So just be careful, please.’

‘When you go ‘Ooh I like that picture,’ we all know that you liked it,’ Smith chimed in.

Barkley’s Instagram page (@charleswbarkley) has six posts and nearly 120,000 followers at the time of this writing. Most of his posts market his Redmont Vodka brand. The promotional posts also include collaborations with UFC chief Dana White and his Power Slap League.

The NBA Hall of Famer also shared pictures with DJ Khaled at the Park West Palm Beach golf course.

‘I’m learning, I’m trying it out,’ he added.
