After being unceremoniously let go from the New York Jets last season, Joe Douglas is returning to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Douglas, who was most recently the Jets’ general manager, will be going back to the Eagles in a senior scouting role, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
He had previously worked for the Eagles from 2016 to 2019 – winning Super Bowl LII in the process.
In that span, Douglas was vice president of player personnel for Philadelphia and led the scouting department.
From there, he departed on his now ill-fated quest to try and bring the Jets back to the playoffs.
While Douglas drafted incredibly well – using his scouting background to acquire key pieces for the Jets – he wasn’t able to build a team capable of snapping that cold streak.

The draft bared serious fruits for Gang Green. Defensive end Quinnen Williams (3rd overall, 2019), offensive tackle Mekhi Becton (11th overall, 2020), guard Alijah Vera-Tucker (14th overall, 2021), cornerback Sauce Gardner (4th overall, 2022), wide receiver Garrett Wilson (10th overall, 2022), pᴀss rusher Jermain Johnson II (26th overall, 2022), running back Breece Hall (36th overall, 2022), linebacker Will McDonald IV (15th overall, 2023), and tackle Olu Fashanu (11th overall, 2024) were among the better draft picks made by Douglas.
He did, however, have some big misses – most notably picking Zach Wilson second overall in the quarterback-heavy 2021 Draft.
Then, of course, there was the trade for Aaron Rodgers. Douglas sent first, second, and sixth round pick to the Green Bay Packers in order to acquire the signal caller.
But that move backfired spectacularly when Rodgers went down with an injury four snaps into his Jets career that ended his 2023 season.
2024 saw the Jets flounder under Rodgers and the quarterback was ultimately cut.
Robert Saleh, the coach Douglas hired to replace Adam Gase in 2021, was fired just five games into the season. Six weeks later, Douglas joined him on the unemployment line.
Saleh has been replaced by head coach Aaron Glenn – formerly the defensive coordinator with the Detroit Lions – and Douglas’ role has been filled by former Denver Broncos ᴀssistant general manager Darren Mougey.
