Brock Purdy contract twist revealed after 49ers QB signed mᴀssive $265million deal

Brock Purdy’s mᴀssive new contract includes control over his future, it has been revealed.

The 49ers quarterback agreed to a five-year $265million extension with the franchise over the weekend, according to multiple reports.

But in addition to that huge sum, Purdy’s contract also contains a no-trade clause, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo has shared.

Purdy is now part of an extremely exclusive group ofNFl players who have no-trade clauses, including Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts and newly-extended Browns pᴀss rusher Myles Garrett, who had the clause inserted into his most recent deal.

Garafolo’s NFL Network colleague Tom Pelissero previously reported that Purdy’s new contract has $181m in total guaranteed salary, with $165.05m guaranteed within the first three years of the deal.

At $53million per year, Purdy now sits tied for seventh with Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff in highest paid quarterbacks in average annual value.

He’s just $100k a year behind Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in sixth. Ahead of that, there’s a four-way tie for second at $55m per year held by Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence, Josh Allen, and Jordan Love.

The highest paid player in the NFL is Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott at $60m/year.

This upcoming season was set to be the last one on Purdy’s rookie deal, where he was set to have a cap hit of $5.365million. He would have hit unrestricted free agency afterwards.

Purdy, the very last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, went from third-stringer to Pro Bowler in San Francisco after injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo during his rookie year.

After being forced into the starting job in Week 13 of that season, he led the team to an 8-0 record before the team lost in the NFC Championship Game.

The following season, Purdy entered the season as the starter and had a tremendous year, pᴀssing for 4,280 yards and 31 touchdowns as his team went 12-5 and reached the Super Bowl.

San Francisco lost to the Chiefs in heartbreaking fashion in overtime, and the team regressed last season after injuries to skill position players like Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle, and Brandon Aiyuk.

With several of his top pᴀss-catchers missing during the season, Purdy’s numbers dipped, as he threw just 20 touchdowns and posted a pᴀsser rating of 96.1, compared to 113.0 the year before.
