Brock Purdy’s $265 million 49ers extension includes mᴀssive guaranteed money

The 49ers have their quarterback locked up for the future.

San Francisco and Brock Purdy agreed to a five-year extension worth $265 million, according to multiple reports on Friday.

It makes him the richest player in the history of the 49ers, according to The Athletic.

Sports Illustrated reported that the deal will come with $181 million in guaranteed money for Purdy.

The extension ties him as the seventh-highest paid quarterback in the league — on an average annual value basis — at $53 million per season.

Purdy, 25, is in the final year of his rookie deal, and the extension will keep him in San Francisco through the 2030 season.

It comes a little less than two months after 49ers general manager John Lynch expressed confidence that the team would be able to get a new contract done.

“I think we’re going to get the deal done,” Lynch said at the end of March. “That’s what I believe. We’ll just leave it at that.”

It’s been a meteoric rise for Purdy, who, just three years ago, was Mr. Irrelevant as the 262nd and final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft.

He got off to a rollicking start when he took over the reins from an injured Jimmy Garoppolo at the end of 2022 with a perfect 5-0 finish to the regular season and a trip to the NFC Championship game.

Purdy then outdid himself in his sophomore effort with a Super Bowl appearance and a Pro Bowl nod.

Much like the rest of the 49ers, Purdy trended downward last season as his production dipped from 4,280 yards and 31 touchdowns in 2023 to 3,864 yards and 20 touchdowns as the team underwhelmed in a last-place finish (6-11) in the NFC West.

Now, he’ll be the backbone of a team that hopes to change its fortunes in 2025.
