Revealed: The dramatic late call to Tennessee тιтans to try and get them to trade the No 1 NFL Draft pick

New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen made a last-second attempt to trade up two spots to the No 1 overall pick and select Cam Ward.

It was revealed on ‘Giants Life: 2025 NFL Draft’, a web series from the team itself, that Scohen dialed up Mike Borgonzi, who is the GM of the Tennessee тιтans, when the draft started to make one final plea.

As teams who have the No 1 overall pick traditionally work, they are on the clock for months, not the 10-minute period allowed in the first round.

Borgonzi was not going to be dismayed at the final hurdle by a phone call from an NFL colleague.

‘Were you waiting for this? Are you gonna pick?’ Schoen said to Borgonzi. ‘I had to do it, I had to do it. Alright, man. Well, good luck to you man. I was gonna wait and just call you now on the clock, so I figured you guys were picking. But thought I’d give it one more swing.’

Scohen hangs up the phone and returns to his seat in the Giants war room, focusing their efforts at No 3, not knowing for sure that a mᴀssive trade was being made for the second pick.

After the Jaguars trade for Travis Hunter, the Giants ended up being happy with their draft results, taking Abdul Carter at No 3, then trading back into the first round to select quarterback Jaxson Dart.

Schoen has since revealed that the Giants do not plan on starting Dart for the entire 2025 season after signing Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston this offseason.

The Giants are in a rebuild and know they will have tough compeтιтion from inside their own division as a push back to the postseason goes down.

The Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Commanders were the two teams to advance to the NFC Championship Game last season.

The Dallas Cowboys made a splashy trade in acquiring George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers on Wednesday.

New York tried to find its franchise quarterback in Ward to accelerate any growth, much like Washington did a season ago with Jayden Daniels.
