Tom Brady seems just as surprised as anyone that Shedeur Sanders slid all the way to the fifth round in the 2025 NFL Draft.
And according to the legendary quarterback, who owns a minority stake in the Raiders, he had no role in Las Vegas pᴀssing on Sanders seven times.
Brady appeared on the latest episode of Logan Paul’s “Impaulsive” podcast and was asked why Sanders fell to the Browns at No. 144 overall.
“I mean … it’s a good question. I wasn’t a part of any evaluation process,” Brady said.

“Skip Bayless says otherwise,” co-host Mike Majlak interjected.
“I know,” Brady replied. “That’s the problem with media is everyone can just say whatever the f–k they want.”
The Raiders made seven selections, starting with Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty at No. 6 overall, before the Browns took Sanders, who at one point was projected to be a top-three pick.
Brady, of course, was selected in the sixth round at No. 199 overall by the Patriots in 2000 and went on to win seven Super Bowls.

“I actually texted Shedeur ’cause I know him very well. And I said, ‘Dude, whatever happens, wherever you go, that’s your first day. Day 2 matters more than the draft,’” Brady said. “I was 199. So, who could speak on it better than me, what that really means? Use it as motivation. You’re gonna get your chances. Go take advantage of it.”
The Raiders did take two quarterbacks in the sixth round of this year’s draft: Montana State’s Tommy Mellott at No. 213 and North Dakota State’s Cam Miller two picks later.
The Athletic reported that while Brady was not with team brᴀss during the draft, Brady “was in constant communication” and thinks highly of Miller.
“[Brady] liked the way [Miller] threw it, his technique, throwing from the ground up and his motion,” Raiders GM John Spytek said, per The Athletic. “And he thought he had the potential to improve.”
