NFL quarterback Quinn Ewers’ agent slams teams’ ‘chickens***’ excuse for slide in draft

NFL quarterback Quinn Ewers' agent slams teams' 'chickens***' excuse for slide in draft

The NFL Draft can be a frustrating process for many who dream of playing professional football. For one quarterback, a slide to the seventh-round was unexpected.

After entering the 2024 season as a favorite to win the Heisman Trophy – given to the top college football player in the country – Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers didn’t perform up to that standard.

By no means was Ewers a bad player in his final season for Texas as he helped lead the Longhorns to a second-consecutive College Football Playoff appearance.

But NFL scouts weren’t impressed as Ewers ended up being the final quarterback selected in the NFL Draft – with the Miami Dolphins taking him in the seventh round with pick No. 231.

Ewers’ agent, Ron Slavin, believes his client was slighted – and when he went looking for answers, he wasn’t impressed.

The agent told ESPN that he reached out to ‘half the league’ the day after the draft to inquire why Ewers – who was ranked as the 10th best quarterback in the prospect pool by ESPN’s Mel Kiper – ended up being the 13th pᴀsser taken.

Ewers will likely start his first season behind Tua Tagovailoa (L) and backup Zach Wilson (R)

‘They thought he was a third- or fourth-round pick, but too big of a name to be a clipboard holder,’ Slavin told ESPN’s Todd Archer. ‘Which I think is chickens–t.’

Essentially, Slavin was told that Ewers was too good to be sitting on the sidelines, but not good enough to be a starting quarterback.

It’s a tough decision for Ewers, who turned down reported NIL offers of $8million to stay in college but transfer away from Texas.

Now, he’s in line to earn an estimated rookie salary of just over $4m.

In Miami, Ewers will likely be behind starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and backup Zach Wilson.

At Texas last year, Ewers tossed for 3,472 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
