Unveiling the Sands of Time

The excavation mission, which began in August 2022, involved the meticulous removal of 450 cubic meters of sand from the ancient cemetery. Beneath the desert sands, the archaeologists uncovered well-preserved burial shafts leading to the double tomb, a testament to the intricate funerary practices of the ancient Egyptians.

A Final Resting Place for Nobles and Priests

As the team delved deeper into the tomb, they discovered the remains of a priest and a noble, alongside a remarkable limestone statue. The priest was believed to have served King Khafra, while the noble was identified as Khuwy.

“The excavation uncovered tombs containing two closed coffins, known as sarcophagi, as well as archaeological relics belonging to priests,” said Mostafa Waziri, the General Secretary of the Supreme Council of Antiquities.
