Abdul Carter was also prank called during 2025 NFL Draft before being taken by Giants

The prank calls during the 2025 NFL Draft started early.

Abdul Carter, considered by some to be the best player in the draft, was also a victim of a phony phone call before the Giants selected the Penn State edge rusher at No. 3 overall.

Someone pretending to be from the Jaguars called to say they were picking him at No. 2 after Jacksonville acquired the pick from the Cleveland Browns, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday.

The Jaguars selected two-way standout Travis Hunter, a Colorado teammate of Shedeur Sanders, who was also the victim of a prank call during the draft.

“It’s unfortunate that these private numbers are getting to the people making the prank calls,” Carter’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told Schefter. “Abdul and I knew it was BS and didn’t even tell his family about the call.”

It’s unclear who was behind the prank call to Carter.

Former Jets interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich’s son, Jax, prank called Sanders during Day 2 of the draft Friday. The Falcons, for whom Ulbrich is now the defensive coordinator, said that Jax got Sanders’ number off an open iPad while visiting his parents’ house.

The prank on Sanders seemed especially cruel as pundits and fans couldn’t stop talking about how the quarterback was slipping in the draft.

“On Friday night I made a tremendous mistake,” Jax said in a statement. “[Shedeur] what I did was completely inexcusable, embarrᴀssing, and shameful. I’m so sorry I took away from your moment, it was selfish and childish. I could never imagine getting ready to celebrate one of the greatest moments of your life and I made a terrible mistake and messed with that moment. Thank you for accepting my call earlier today, I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.”

The NFL on Wednesday fined the Falcons $250,000 and Ulbrich $100,000 in the wake of the ordeal.

The league is investigating other prank calls, Schefter reported Wednesday.

Carter’s college teammate, тιԍнт end Tyler Warren, was also reportedly prank called before he was taken at No. 14 by the Colts.
