Bill Belichick’s ex-Patriots player questions his sanity over Jordon Hudson romance

Bill Belichick's ex-Patriots player questions his sanity over Jordon Hudson romance

A New England Patriots Super Bowl-winner has questioned if Bill Belichick ‘is of sound mins’ amid the ongoing fallout from Jordon Hudson’s intervention in his CBA interview.

Ted Johnson, who played five seasons under Belichick in New England, believes that the University of North Carolina should re-consider having the eight-time Super Bowl champion coaching their team.

The clip of Hudson’s intervenion went viral on Sunday, sparking widespread condemnation over her involvement in how involved she is with the life of the NFL great.

Amid reports of friends staging an intervention, Johnson has said he wonders if Belichick is in the right frame of mind to realize the influence Hudson appears to have.

‘I hold college coaches to a higher standard than I do NFL coaches when it comes to morally, they are supposed to leaders of men, set a good example that kind of thing,’ Johnson told Boston radio station WEEI on Tuesday.

‘I’m surprised UNC never called Atlanta on why they pᴀssed on hiring Bill Belichick. My feeling is that the Atlanta Falcons are kinda looking at the UNC and going, ‘You should have called us.’

‘I say all that to say this: I think the … Tar Heels should consider firing Bill Belichick. They should consider letting him go at this point. It’s a lot of money and they’re deep into, obviously, their preparation for next year, but I look at Bill Belichick and I wonder if he’s fit to coach an NFL team, let alone fit to coach a college team which, again, I put more onus on the character and personality and just overall character, if you will, of a college coach than I do a pro coach.

‘I’m worried that Bill Belichick just isn’t fit to coach college kids and UNC should consider cutting ties with Bill Belichick.’

Johnson continued: ‘What you’ve seen so far, the behaviors with Jordon. That dynamic, her being on the football field, her just kind of embarrᴀssing Bill, people say, ‘Well, she’s taken control of Bill. You think Bill doesn’t have any say in how these things go?’ Of course he does.

‘He’s OK with what she’s doing. You don’t think he knows that that email was being posted on her Instagram? Of course he knows. He’s signing off on that.

‘To me, those are bad decisions that makes him and the university look really bad and question whether or not he is of sound mind and should be running a football team at the University of North Carolina.

‘I think it’s something you have to really, really consider. Just question the decision-making from the head coach at this point for those reasons.’

Johnson’s take is just one of many revelations and opinions about the Belichick-Hudson situation that has been revealed in the aftermath of the CBS interview.

CBS’s inclusion of Hudson’s interruption was not cherry-picked. Rather, it was a deliberate selection that was representative of many interruptions the 24-year-old made during the interview. Other reports suggest that CBS executives were involved in the final edit of the interview.

TMZ later reported that Hudson at one point stormed out of the interview – delaying shooting for around 30 minutes. Hudson reportedly wanted Belichick to leave the room with her, and Dokoupil is said to have been ‘spooked’ by the overall experience.

Furthermore, CBS producers were said to be befuddled that Belichick arrived to the interview with no one from his book’s publishing company or UNC, while a planned second interview was ultimately canceled.

After the interview went to air, Belichick launched a pre-emptive attack on the media through Hudson. The pageant queen shared a picture of an email to members of his camp back on April 10, where the coaching icon appears unhappy with unnamed media coverage of his new book.

‘I don’t think this is fantastic, but it probably will hype the book, which is clearly the ongoing theme here…,’ Belichick began his correspondence. ‘This is about what I expected from the media.’

The University of North Carolina head coach, who sat down with CBS Mornings to promote his new book ‘The Art of Winning: Lessons from My Life in Football’, appeared to go on to discuss another upcoming article from his promotional tour.

It is not clear which interview he is referring to and it seems the article may not yet be published but amid the backlash to his controversial conversation with CBS – which aired Sunday – Belichick is already hitting out at the ‘negative’ media attention.

He appears to take issue in particular with the mystery article’s focus on his admission that he ‘f***ed up’ during one of his many appearances at the Super Bowl with the Patriots.

‘We went through how important it was for me to put “I f***ed up” in the book, and of course, that is the feature of this article – which is mostly about admitting mistakes and talking about a Super Bowl mistake. I am fine with putting mistakes in the book, but I am certainly not surprised that of 260+ pages, that is what they would highlight,’ he continued, ripping into the promotion of his upcoming autobiography.

‘And of course, the “f*”*ed up” is the click bait they used for the story. We’ll see what the тιтle of the article is, which I noticed has been conveniently left out – do we have approval on that. I would approve this article if we can also approve the headline, which is actually more important than the article.

‘We can expect that the “interviews” and “podcasts” that will supposedly drive the sales will also come from similar samples.’

Belichick also seems to claim that a separate interview was canceled over his refusal to discuss his coaching role at the University of North Carolina, while bemoaning the lack of media focus on the ‘business aspects’ of his book.

He also referred to conversations with New York Times best-selling author Suzy Welch and American billionaire Ray Dalio but the context of their discussions is not clear.

‘These appearances will, no doubt, want to focus on whatever negatives they can extract from the book, and all the current events that don’t have anything to do with the book, but are most relevant to their “ratings” and their agenda (which is not mine),’ he furiously penned.

‘That was evident when Alelrod dropped the story because we would not do current events at UNC. We’ll see how many people wan (sic) to talk about the $5,000 bill for “spoiled milk,” and other entertaining & business aspects of the book. I have no doubt the “I p***ked (sic) up” will not be the main focus of Ray Dalio & Suzy Welch in my conversations with them.’

Belichick went on to take issue with how the book was being promoted, while notably revealing he was not fully in control of its creation.

‘I will say again, that I want this book to be presented as a look at my professional life and how I did my job on the way up to, and as the leader of an organization that grew from a $500 m franchise to an $8 b organization that played in 10 and won 6 Super Bowls over 25 years,’ he added. ‘This book is about how I did my job, and lessons from my 50 years in and around the NFL – not a bathroom book that highlights my mistakes.

‘I acknowledge the mistakes in the book, but of course, “I f***ed up” is the catch phrase.

‘[…] I have, at times reluctantly, gone along with the тιтle, cover, and language in the book. I am not going to be the conductor of a hype train in the book promotion – we have enough hype to work with.

‘I hope we can get on the same page in promoting the book authentically.’

Hudson’s Instagram post, which tagged her location as Annapolis, Maryland, sparked further confusion as the second image showed a still of two men’s feet on grᴀss with someone’s finger partially covering the lens.

A timestamp, ’35:59,’ was also featured, while CBS Mornings and its co-host Tony Dokoupil, who conducted Sunday’s interview with Belichick, were tagged.

Around an hour after sharing Belichick’s email, Hudson also appeared to share another cryptic response to the furor. On her Instagram story, she reposted a past video showing the message Belichick penned in her textbook on their first meeting.

Dokoupil also quizzed Belichick about his football career, including his exit from the Patriots and relationship with owner Robert Kraft, which was met with yet another excruciatingly awkward response from the coach.

But, unsurprisingly, the snippet featuring Hudson’s uncomfortable moment immediately went viral. It sparked an outcry from Belichick’s supporters, including Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, many of whom expressed concern for the football coach.

The CBS car crash also reportedly caused Belichick’s friends to stage an intervention as the humiliating fallout continues to spiral.

A New York Post report Tuesday says his friends are ‘shaking their heads’ at his involvement with Hudson and have contacted him about it.

‘They are talking to him about her, but very gently because they know how deep in he is,’ the Post quotes an insider as saying. ‘She saw an opening and she took it.

‘This guy is known as being such a strong voice and in many ways autocratic — and here he is becoming mush in her hands and letting her direct everything. She is so much younger, so inexperienced and so lacking in perspective and professionalism.

‘This CBS interview really exposed how bad things are and how much control that she’s been able to get. The optics were brutal.’
