George Kittle inks $76 million extension after 49ers contract drama

George Kittle is staying in San Francisco for the foreseeable future.

The 49ers locked down the veteran All-Pro тιԍнт end with a four-year, $76.4 million contract extension that includes $40 million guaranteed.

Kittle, 31, who’s played his entire career in San Francisco after being drafted in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, shared the news first with Will Compton and Taylor Lewan’s “Bussin With The Boys” podcast.

The 49ers confirmed Kittle’s extension, writing “made it official” on Instagram and including pH๏τos of him at the team facility.

Last week, Kittle disputed a report by The Athletic that he didn’t attend the team’s voluntary offseason activities due to contract-related issues with the 49ers.

The team’s GM John Lynch praised Kittle for his leadership and demeanor both on and off of the field.

“In 2017, our first year with the 49ers, we selected a skinny тιԍнт end from Iowa whom we were really excited about. We had high hopes, but no one knew that he would become the player that he is today,” Lynch said in a statement on Tuesday, per The ᴀssociated Press.

“George’s leadership, enthusiasm for the game, for his teammates, and the faithful are truly unique and special. He is an outstanding representation for the 49ers on the field and is an outstanding representative for the organization off the field with his investment in the local and military communities. He has a great sense of pride in his role and has put in the work to be one of the best тιԍнт ends in the NFL.”

The six-time Pro Bowler was entering the final year of his previous deal he signed in 2020, which made him the highest-paid NFL тιԍнт end ever at the time.

Kittle is coming off a 2024 campaign in which he led 49ers in receiving yards, touchdowns and catches.

Through eight NFL seasons, Kittle has 538 receptions for 7,380 yards and 45 touchdowns.

Kittle has said he wants to end his career as a 49er and this contract may now allow him do that.
