Shedeur Sanders’ mindset revealed entering pivotal Day 3 of NFL Draft after shocking slip

Shedeur Sanders’ mindset revealed entering pivotal Day 3 of NFL Draft after shocking slip

If arguably the most unexpected slide in NFL draft history is bothering Shedeur Sanders, he’s not letting it show publicly.

The Colorado quarterback, once in contention to be the No. 1 pick but now a fourth-round pick at best, tweeted positive words Saturday before the final day of the draft.

“Another day another opportunity to get a chance to play the game I love. Thank you GOD #LEGENDARY,” Sanders posted to X.

While there had been a debate about when Sanders would get drafted entering Round 1 on Thursday, virtually no one saw him slipping through the first 102 picks.

Some expected he could fall to the second round, but once the Browns pᴀssed on him with their two early second-round picks Friday it set the ball in motion for him to slip further and now be a Day 3 option.

Perhaps the most shocking element is how five quarterbacks have now gone in front of him, with Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel representing the biggest stunner.

Cam Ward had been set to go No. 1 and there had been talk of Jaxson Dart (No. 25 to the Giants) and Tyler Shough (No. 40 to the Saints) being taken ahead of him, but most mocks had him going before Alabama’s Jalen Milroe (No. 92 to the Seahawks) and Gabriel (No. 94 to the Browns).

It seems the warnings of Sanders coming across poorly to certain teams have resonated true, while the unflattering reports of his actual skills may have been more concerning than most.

“Sanders’ slip is attributable to both flaws in his game and the brash atтιтude he displayed during the pre-draft process, NFL sources told The Post,” Ryan Dunleavy reported Friday.

Through it all, Sanders has kept an upbeat atтιтude, although he acknowledged he did say Thursday night, “we all know this shouldn’t have happened.”

After not being drafted Friday, Sanders leaned on his faith.

“We’re in good spirits, of course,” Sanders said to a social-media gathering. “God don’t make mistakes. We have faith in God no matter what. Whatever it is.”

With the fourth through seventh rounds taking place Saturday, logical spots for Sanders include the Rams and Steelers since both could use a young quarterback.

The Rams have Matthew Stafford under contract but need a succession plan, while the Steelers may land Aaron Rodgers but could certainly use insurance.
