New Giants RB breaks down after being drafted

Cam Skattebo reacted with sheer emotion when hearing his name called at the NFL Draft.

The newest New York Giant was already wearing a team cap by the time he was announced as the 105th pick on Saturday, indicating the Giants had likely already told him he was being picked.

If that was the case, however, it did not blunt Skattebo’s reaction one bit.

He buried his face in his hands and broke down crying as a house full of people at his draft party started to cheer for him.

The Arizona State product could end up being a steal for the Giants, who add Skattebo to a backfield also featuring Tyrone Tracy and Devin Singletary.

Adding a running back looked like a need headed into this draft after the Giants ranked 23rd in rushing yards and 18th in yards per attempt last season.

After losing Saquon Barkley in free agency, Tracy led the Giants with 839 rushing yards.

Skattebo’s stats were off the charts last season with the Sun Devils, as he became the first FBS player since Christian McCaffrey with at least 1,500 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards in a season.

Though Skattebo’s measurables were a question mark, his highlight-reel runs — including 21 touchdowns — made him a fan favorite at Arizona State, and he’s already proving a popular pick amongst Giants fans.

At least at a first glance, it looks like a successful draft so far for general manager Joe Schoen.

The Giants added a stud defensive end in Abdul Carter third overall, traded back into the first round to get their quarterback in Jaxson Dart, added a solid run-defending defensive tackle in Darius Alexander in the third round, and now get Skattebo in the fourth.

With three picks left to go, that looks like a solid haul for a team that needed to nail it this weekend.
