Shedeur Sanders slipping in NFL Draft after Steelers pᴀss at No. 21

The Shedeur Sanders draft slide has begun.

The Giants pᴀssed on Sanders with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Saints followed suit at No. 9 and then — perhaps most surprising of all — the Steelers went in a different direction at No. 21.

Along with the тιтans, who took Cam Ward at No. 1, the Giants, Saints and Steelers were considered the two most QB needy teams in the draft.

The Giants elected to postpone addressing their quarterback needs as they selected Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter.

The Saints went with Texas offensive lineman Kelvin Banks Jr. with their top pick.

And the Steelers went with Oregon defensive tackle Derrick Harmon.

Essentially every other team either has their future set at the position (or at least they hope so), or has a solution for this season and would likely only consider a quarterback as a later-round flier.

Sanders could still be on the table for the Giants despite their pᴀssing on him at the third pick.

The Giants sent a large contingent out for Colorado’s Pro Day, which also included Heisman winner Travis Hunter, and then held a private workout with Sanders.

Now, if the Giants want Sanders, they must either trade back into the first round or sit тιԍнт and hope he is available in the second round at the No. 34 overall pick.

While it sounds wild that Sanders could have gone as high as No. 3 while also having a chance to slip out of the first round entirely, it’s a real possibility given the low volume of quarterback-needy teams drafting before the Giants’ second pick.

Sanders’ slipping from top three all the way down to the second round would cost him millions of dollars as the contracts for top picks vary wildly from that of a second-rounder.
